Photohunters: Quaggy and Red

When I saw that one of the photohunters words was quaggy, I looked through my old shots for wetlands.

I found these shots I took of the wetlands beside the Cape Fear River in eastern North Carolina.

I was delighted that these shots were not only of a quaggy terrain but that they also had red in them for the other photohunt theme.

I also found a shot of a flooded trail in the western part of NC that I think qualifies for quaggy and red too.

Nature Notes: Spring draws to an end

Hard to believe that summer is almost here.
naturenotessDSCN7287
The American Robin above seemed to be watching the cars pass by. I like to see clover dotting the landscape white.
naturenotesDSCN7286
It's nice to see large trees in downtown areas.
naturenotesDSCN7283
The trees soften the buildings and asphalt with their green leaves this time of the year.
naturenotesDSCN7268
I'm happy to see so much coriopsis coming up in my yard.
natunoteDSCN7299
This variety of coriopsis, as well as the butterfly weed below, self seeds so I never quite know where they'll turn up.
natnotesDSCN7302
Below is some poison ivy I don't like to see but I'm posting the shot in case anyone doesn't know what it looks like.
natnoteposivyDSCN7303
The blackberry vines are beginning to have a few blossoms.
naturenotesDSCN7423
My hydrangea bushes have more and more blooms forming.
naturenotesDSCN7419
Below is one of the few hydrangea blooms that are beginning to get their color started.
naturenotesDSCN7401
Can you spot the visitor in the hydrangea bloom below?
natnoteDSCN7402
One of my blueberry bushes already has a few tiny berries.
natnoteDSCN7393
I've photographed the coriopsis a lot this week.
 natnoteDSCN7387
I used to have several different varieties of coriopsis but this one is the only one that keeps coming back.

Today's Flowers and Weekend Flowers: End of May

Our wet spring has resulted in happy flowers.
todayflowDSCN7275
The rose above was one I photographed outside of an office building.
todayflowDSCN7233
The flowers above were growing at a Hospital and the shot below was taken in Grace Garden.

My evening primroses are doing well.

My neighbor's cat sits on them but the bounce back.

Photohunters: Copper A Special Texture

I didn't have to think very long about how to combine the two themes because I inherited a large amount of cloisonne which used copper and enamel in the design and has a special texture.
photohuntersDSCN7261
I didn't have time to polish the copper so it would shine and some of the enamel is pitted so it doesn't look as good as it did before I ended up with the pieces.

Nature Notes: Here There and Yonder

I'm starting with my nature walk through Grace Garden today.
naturenotesDSCN7210
It was raining all the way to Durham, NC but it stopped long enough for me to wander through the garden before going inside the office.
naturenotesDSCN7204
It was raining again when I left the office.
naturenotesDSCN7202
I was glad I got there early enough for some garden shots.
naturenotesDSCN7200
The plants are enjoying the frequent rainfall.
naturenotesDSCN7194
I love the way this small Japanese Maple looks in the garden.
naturenotesDSCN7192
The magnolia is beginning to have some buds.
naturenotesDSCN7182
I photographed the squirrel when I was visiting at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, NC.
naturenotesDSCN7174
The landscaping around the hospital is very beautiful.
naturenotesDSCN7163
I can't remember a prettier spring.
naturenotesDSCN7161
The brown thrasher was drip drying after a bath at my house.
naturenotesDSCN7158
The rain beaded on my buttefly weed.
naturenotesDSCN7150
The honesuckle is taking over but I love its scent.
naturenotesDSCN7145
Below are some other shots I took at Rex.
naturnotesDSCN7084
Everything is getting so green.
naturenotesDSCN7082
The American Robin was enjoying a bath although I needed to provide more fresh water.
naturenotesDSCN7071
The Virginia Creeper climbed up the brick on my house and kept going to the eaves.
naturenotesDSCN7069
My hydrangea bushes are growing like crazy.
