Dona Nobis Pacem for Photohunters Light

I decided to combine the photohunters light theme with Mimi's Blog Blast for Peace.
Carverpeace2011
The combination works literally and figuratively. My peace globe above uses a photograph of a mourning dove where the background of the shot has whirls of light and the darker green in solid.
PHlightdDSCN1027
In photography, depending on which direction you shoot in the light changes the image, apart from the different perspective.
PHlightbDSCN1012
Light can be used in imagery for peace such as the light of love, moving from the darkness of war to the light of peace.
PHlightdDSCN0978
In order to achieve any lasting peace it is necessary to understand the perspective of others and move away from an us and them mentality.

Dona Nobis Pacem - Blog Blast for Peace 2009

Dona Nobis Pacem! I was at a loss this year about what I wanted to do with my peace globe to personalize it and what I wanted to write about for Mimi's 2009 Blog Blast for Peace. Then it struck me that this would be a good time to highlight a foundation which brings me hope. There is so much to be depressed and discouraged about that sometimes I need to remind myself of the ways people around the world do connect for peaceful purposes. One such organization is Playing for Change - Peace through Music. From their site - "Playing for Change is a multimedia movement created to inspire, connect, and bring peace to the world through music. The idea for this project arose from a common belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people. No matter whether people come from different geographic, political, economic, spiritual or ideological backgrounds, music has the universal power to transcend and unite us as one human race. And with this truth firmly fixed in our minds, we set out to share it with the world."I first found out about them from a wonderful video Stand By Me with musicians filmed singing and playing the song in different parts of the world. Since I've posted that video before and have seen it on other sites, I was going to embed a couple of other videos, although you can find them all at the playing for change site.
Unfortunately blogger isn't letting me embed the videos but I hope you will go to the links if you have time. They are both fairly short. First you can see a video about the music school the foundation built in South Africa for children. Next is a performance of Don't Worry Playing for Change . Also if you haven't seen the Stand by Me video before I strongly recommend it.

If anyone wonders about the photographs I scattered through this post, I had thought I'd be able to embed videos which would be my visuals. When that didn't work I just inserted some of my fairly recent photos. The one with mileage markers was taken at a park in Durham, NC, U.S. and it struck me how there were markers for places around the world.
Please visit Mimi Writes the home of Blog Blast for Peace on November 5. Dona nobis pacem.

I will be flying my peace globe on November 5, 2009 and I hope you will too.

I hope that you will consider participating in Mimi's Blog Blast for Peace this year. I will be writing my post on November 5, 2009 for this event but wanted to go ahead and add my voice to encourage others to participate in this event. Please click here to go to Mimi Writes and get your own peace globe. The globe below is the one I've personalized and I will explain more about it when I write on the blog blast for peace date.

I had this post up as a sticky post but since it was confusing people, I changed the date. The only way I have to keep a post at the top is to have the date set for a future date but after a few comments from people, I decided not to try and keep this post at the top. But please do visit Mimi Writes and get your peace globe to personalize prior to November 5, 2009.

Dona Nobis Pacem

You can click inside the photograph above, if you want to enlarge my peace globe. Blogblast for peace was started by Mimi and you can visit Mimi Writes to find other peace globes. As always a big thank you to Mimi for starting and continuing to host blogblast for peace.

I am a, soon to be, 51 year old woman; born on veteran's day in 1957; I became a mother in 1985; I am a North Carolinian; I am an American; I am a member of the Human Family. We share this planet with a vast array of other species that are often threatened by our actions and we also threaten our own species. I know I'm stating the obvious but sometimes it seems like we as humans ignore the obvious. My hope is that we don't run out of chances to learn to live together as part of a human family, and as part of a wider family of life on earth. We have one beautiful planet and I believe that we have to preserve it because the alternative is that we simply don't care for the future generations of any species including our own. War and greed are both very bad for the environment. Peace Please!

Fun Surprise and Mimi's Peace movement

I met a friend for lunch downtown today and imagine my surprise when I discovered that James Taylor was performing at an Obama rally around the corner from where we ate. I told my friend that I was going to slip behind the press and get a shot before he started singing but I'd move away from her so as not to be embarrassing. Not only wasn't she embarrassed she tapped me on the shoulder and pointed out a better place to get a clear shot. It worked out great as I finished my paparazzi moment in time to put up my camera and move back to where we could just listen. JT sounded great. In really good voice. As an Obama supporter and someone who likes James Taylor's music it was a fun way to end a fun lunch. On another topic, Mimi the Queen of Blog Blast for Peace has decided to move the movement along by spreading the word via the internet tag system. What a great cause to see continue to move and grow. Since I don't tag individuals, if you read my blog and want to joing Blogblast for Peace, simply read below and consider yourself tagged by me.

From Mimi's Blog-
This meme is a movement.

Let's move it.

Tag at will!

Here are the rules and the story.
(1) Copy this into a post (2) ADD YOUR NAME to the bottom of the tag list
(3) Tag at as many people as you'd like.

The Peace Globe project began in the fall of 2006 with a simple post from one blog, Mimi Writes. The post ignited a flame in the blogosphere. The flame became a passion. The passion became a movement. It amazingly traveled from blog to blog to blog across the globe. Bloggers wrote passionate articles on what peace means to them, along with the promise of three Latin words scribbled on a globe - Dona Nobis Pacem (Grant Us Peace) - branded with the integrity of their names or blog names. It was positively inspiring to watch. And it began to happen all over the world - from Singapore to China to Afghanistan to Brooklyn.

It was simple. And powerful.

In less than three weeks bloggers from all across the globe will blog for peace.
We will speak with one voice. One subject. One day.
Won't you join us?

Weekend Snapshot: Number 54

My weekend snapshot post includes a shot I took this week as well as a project I did on Friday so hopefully this isn't too much of a stretch to call it my WS. I went ahead and made my new Peace Globe this Friday and it includes some recent as well as some old shots. One of the shots on my new peace globe was taken Thursday and is shown below with a group of high school students on the lawn of their school and there are also pigeons at the bottom of the shot.
Mimi Writes announced the upcoming Blogblast for Peace recently. Below is the peace globe I will be flying on November 6, 2008. Once you make your globe you can email it to Mimi and it will be numbered and included in the gallery. I think this inspired event which Mimi started several years ago shows a positive side of bloggers coming together. Thank you Mimi!I know some of the WS participants have participated in Blog Blast for Peace and I thought some of you who may not know about it yet may be interested in doing it in November. If you click inside my globe above you can see the individual shots I picked to represent some of the interconnected life that this planet sustains. Top left is the shot I started this post with. Under the school shot is a hummer I recently photographed. Moving right is butterfly top, me and my daughter under that, and my daughter and her Dad under that. The shots with our daughter are 22 to 23 years old.
Still moving right on the globe, beside the butterfly is a farmer's market shot, under that are ducks at my neighborhood lake, and under that are lilly pads at a mountain pond. Moving right is a dog I shot recently, that was hanging out its car window. The full shot of the dog is above. Under the dog on the peace globe is a neighborhood child on a bike last fall, and under that is a shot of my sisters at the beach. Then far right is a caterpillar in my front yard's bird bath. I posted the sister shot on my photoblog in June in this post. I liked it as an enlargement which is why it was posted on my other blog that has full size photos.
I almost used the 22 year old shot of me and my daughter in the mountains shown above, but I kind of like the one of us looking at each other for the peace globe shot. I hope you will consider joining Mimi Writes Blog Blast for Peace.

Weekend Snapshot Home is where participants post on Monday and you can browse at technorati here -

Dona Nobis Pacem

Today is Mimi's Blogblast for Peace, and I want to say that Mimi has written a series of remarkable posts giving some of the reasons to fly a peace globe.

My peace globe has a dogwood flower on it because that is the state flower of my small space in the world and the dogwood stands for endurance. As a mother, a human being, and a member of this crazy family of man, I hope and pray that we will endure. I also hope and pray that we will not end up with an environment which continues to become increasingly hostile to many species, including our own.

The CD Save Our Children, by Pharoah Sanders has a powerful title track. The refrain on the song Save Our Children seems like a good way to conclude my Dona Nobis Pacem post -

Save our children that are dying

Love our mothers Love our fathers

Now's the moment for salvation

All we need is inspiration

Dona Nobis Pacem
Love, Carver

Mimi Writes is the heart and soul behind the Blogblast for Peace.

If anyone is interested, I have a peace collage on my photoblog - Carver Cards.

Blog Blast for Peace Spread the Word

I am going to be flying my peace globe on June 4 for Mimi's Blog Blast for Peace. Below is the globe which I have personalized for the June 4, 2008 post which I will do. As will be explained below you can pick one of the templates and personalize your peace globe in any way you want.Although this did not begin as a tag type blogger movement, Mimi has decided to help spread the word via a tag. As some of you may have noticed, when I am tagged, I usually try to participate but rather than tag someone, I say that anyone reading the post should feel free to consider themselves tagged by me if they want to participate. That will hold true for this one. Since Mimi tagged me, my name is already on the list of links in the tag below, so I don't think I'm supposed to add it to the bottom too. I'm assuming if you are already on the list then you post about it but don't need to add you name. Hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong. Below is how you can participate and spread the word.
