Nature Notes: Changing Fast

We are heading into winter weather wise.
naturenotesDSCN5649
The bulk of the leaves left the trees over the weekend with a few exceptions.
naturenotesDSCN5657
The first few shots were take early last week and these same trees are mostly bare now.
naturenotesDSCN5668
I usually cover about 7 days in my nature notes.
naturenotesDSCN5676
This time of the year there is a big difference from the way my world is looking over the span of a week.
naturenotesDSCN5715
The American Robins above look like they are having a party.
 naturenotesDSCN5745
In the shot above the female cardinal is on top and the male cardinal is way down on the bottom.
naturenotesDSCN5746
The male cardinal above is eating something tasty on the crepe myrtle tree and the female cardinal is taking a break below.
naturenotesDSCN5748
I've been seeing bluebirds, doves, chickadees, towhees, nuthatches and many other birds but most of my shots seem to be of cardinals.
naturenotesDSCN5758
The sparrow and cardinal below are having a drink together.
naturenotesDSCN5765
I like the way a few leaves clinging to a tree look.
naturenotesDSCN5774
I don't particularly like the fact that trees are growing in my gutters.
naturenotesDSCN5819
The bluejay has a wind blown look.
naturenotesDSCN5931
I think the bird below is a starling.
naturenotesDSCN5991
The past couple of days I had to remove ice from the bird baths once in the morning and once again in the early afternoon.
naturenotesDSCN6022
The female cardinal hopped in as soon as I gave her some warm water.
naturenotesDSCN6032
Another cardinal was debating whether to drink or bathe.

Today's Flowers: Roses

A few roses bounced back after a hard frost.
today flowers DSCN5538
Most of the flowers around the office are dead.
today flowersDSCN5537
I was glad to spot a few lingering roses.

Photohunters: Something Rusty Over

I looked through my archives for something rusty all over. I took the shot below this summer and I think it qualifies for being rusty all over.

Nature Notes: Late Fall

My oak trees provide me with a red umbrella this time of the year.
naturenotesDSCN5253
The oaks are dropping leaves fast which provides me with more light.
naturenotesDSCN5234
The female cardinal above and sparrow below are finding seeds on my deck that have dropped from vines and flower seed heads.
naturenotesDSCN5231
The carolina chickadee below arrived for fresh water as soon as I dumped out the overnight ice out.
naturenotesDSCN5216
The male cardinal also arrived for a drink.
naturenotesDSCN5195
Can you spot the angel in the ice?
naturenotesDSCN5152
My oak tree leaves blend nicely with my neighbor's Japanese Maple.
naturenotesDSCN5414
The bare limbs over the Japanese Maple below are from a Japanese Magnolia.
naturenotesDSCN5410
The creek is full of leaves.
naturenotesDSCN5381
It's beginning to look more like winter.
naturenotesDSCN5372
There is still a lot of fall color but leaves are dropping fast.
naturenotesDSCN5362
Looks to me like the ducks are having a party.
naturenotesDSCN5357
The mallard is having a solitary swim.
naturenotesDSCN5349
There aren't many Canadian Geese at Shelley Lake compared to past years.
naturenotesDSCN5348
A few gulls have arrived but not as many as I usually see during late fall.
naturenotesDSCN5313
There also aren't as many herons around but I spotted one.
naturenotesDSCN5307
Good thing that I love leaves.
naturenotesDSCN5297
From a distance the birds in the tree look like leaves.
naturenotesDSCN5457
When I zoom in I can tell they are birds.

Today's Flowers: Mix

I'm not sure if the spiky balls below are flowers or seeds or something else.
todayflowDSCN5131
The yellow rose below had some frost burn on the edges but the center looked perfect.
todayflowDSCN5128
The bittersweet berries below aren't flowers but they are like fall flowers to me.
