Photohunters: Vertical Reflection

Last weekend I went on a walk and looked for vertical reflections for the upcoming photohunt.
photohuntersDSCN3905
I found a bunch of vertical reflections on my walk.
photohuntersDSCN3932
Today (Thursday) I am reflecting on my sincere desire that my trees remain vertical. We had snow and freezing rain last night and freezing rain and snow today.
photohuntersDSCN4477
I have already lost power during the evening on Wednesday, this morning (Thursday) and briefly when I first started composing this post in advance.

I will end my reflection by saying that I have it much easier than the birds who seek shelter in vertical trees and bushes. The birds in these shots are being fed by me on my deck so that helps them somewhat.

Photohunters: Intricate Water

The two photohunt words go together very well this week.
 photohuntDSCN1400
In the winter frozen water makes very intricate designs.
photohuntDSCN8837
I find intricate frozen water designs in everything from bird baths to puddles to lakes and creeks.
 photohuntDSCN8822
The first shot is frozen water emptied out of a bird bath and the second shot is a frozen puddle.
photohuntDSCN8574
The third shot is a frozen lake near the shore and the shot above is a frozen bird bath. I like the intricate play of light on the frozen ice at the lake below.

Photohunters: Bridges and Ways

I had to walk a ways in very cold weather to reach one of the bridges that crosses a creek near my house.
 phtohuntDSCN2144
I could say that I walked a ways just for this week's photohunt but that wouldn't strictly be true.
 photohuntDSCN2137
I'm walking every day anyway and I wanted to reach the bridge so I could photograph the frozen creek. My round trip walk was less than 2 miles which isn't as far as most of my daily walks. I started trying to walk every day on January 8, 2014 and so far so good!
photohuntDSCN2134
I prepared a draft for this week's photohunt on Wednesday but after my Thursday walk, I am adding a couple of different bridges I photographed.
 photohuntDSCN2659
These bridges are even closer to my house than the ones in the first group of photographs. The one above crosses a small creek between the Optimist Pool side of the park and the playground and recreational building side of the park.
photohuntDSCN2661
Looking over the side of this bridge the creek looks like a snow gully.
photohuntDSCN2684
Walking a ways further I came to the bridge above which leads towards the tennis court.
photohuntDSCN2739
There's nothing particularly special about these bridges but I like simple wooden foot bridges. I also think they look pretty in the snow and I didn't want to walk a ways further to the lake bridges.

Photohunters: Vast and Wine

Nothing could be finer than to be in Carolina
With a glass of wine in the evening feeling divine
Watching the vast sea my mood happy and free
PHvastwineDSCN4188
This photohunt made me think of the old song, Nothing could be finer than to be in Carolina in the morning. However when coming up with words to go with this photograph of Atlantic Beach, North Carolina I didn't use the old song because for me coffee or tea go with morning  and wine goes with the evening. Photohunters: Ripple and Two

The first two shots are of animals and ripples on the water.
00PH2ripple IMG_3419
In the spring shot above there are two turtles above the water and two turtles mostly below the water and the ripples give an abstract feel to the lake. In the recent shot below, one canada goose and one mallard equals two water bird creating ripples on the water.
00PH2rippleDSCN7665
The final two shots are of ice on the lake last week.
00PH2rippleDSCN8803
I think it looks like ripples were frozen into the ice. Is it just me or does it look like the Loch Ness Monster is submerged in the shot above. I'm referring to the dark mass in the center left part of the shot above.

Photohunters: Time and door

Visiting Colonial Williamsburg several years ago I was able to glance up at the clock tower on top of the historic capitol to see what time it was before going through the arches which led to the doors.

Photohunters: Party Time and Shimmer

The shot below was one I took in June in Manhattan and seemed appropriate for party time.
000PHpartyTmDSCN7950
The next shot is of the Hudson River taken from my hotel in Manhattan and seemed appropriate for shimmer.

Photohunters: Mellow special decorations

For the past 5 or so years I have become very mellow about Christmas and only get a few special decorations out of the attic.
PHchrismsmelloIMG_2110
I am so mellow this year that I haven't done any decorating yet but I'll probably do a few things this weekend.
PHxheiamwll2IMG_1640
These shots are from my previous mellow Christmas decorating.
PHmellowchrms3IMG_1687
I remember when I used to a big tree every Christmas and move furniture around to fit it into my living room but with age I've mellowed out.
PHchrmell IMG_5552
I thought these shots would fit both themes because they are all from my mellow Christmas decorating years. The shot below makes me laugh because it looks like I tossed the decorations on the table. That's about as mellow as decorating gets.
PHchrismelDSCN3245
The advent calendar in the first shot reminds me of my child and I reading the Christmas story for each day of advent during breakfast.
PHmellchrDSCN3260
I probably won't get that advent calendar down since we're already half way through advent and I don't have a child at home to read it with me. Since I stopped getting a big tree at Christmas I tend to hang ornaments anywhere that's handy because I have so many that I like.

Photohunters: A car detail and burst

When I saw that the themes this week were a car detail and burst, I knew exactly what I was going to use.
PHburstcardetDSCN6756
As part of a special design exhibit at the NC Museum of Art, Janis Joplin's porsche was on display.
PHburstcarDSCN6751
This car is full of details that burst out in color and form.
PHburstcarDSCN6757
The museum exhibit is called Porsche by Design and includes 22 cars .
