Nature Notes: Here Comes April

The first day of April was absolutely gorgeous.
naturenotesDSCN5445
It was especially nice for April 1 to be so pretty since Easter was raining much of the day.
naturenotesDSCN5447
It was one of those perfect days temperature wise too. Not too cold and not too warm.

The shots above were taken on April 1, 2013. The rest of the shots were taken during the last few days of March 2013.

I've been seeing more mourning doves lately.
naturenoteDSCN5348
They blend into the deck so well.

The male cardinals don't blend in except during the fall when they are surrounded by red leaves. Sometimes in the summer from a distance I mistake them for red flowers but in general you can't miss them.

I caught some really good afternoon light a few days ago.
naturenoteDSCN5288
I love the way the light turned the trees a rust color.
naturenoteDSCN5309
I don't associate this kind of light with spring. Ordinarily I notice light like this during fall afternoons so it was unexpected to see it during the spring.
naturenoteDSCN5311
The pine cones looked so good to me.
naturenoteDSCN5313
The pine needles also had a rust cast that afternoon where earlier in the day they were a vivid green.

The female cardinal kept her back to me.

Then she dove into the bath.

The first trees with the white blossoms. Look like brides in their weddingdresses. Thank you for this beautiful tribute to spring.

Love your blossoms. The pine cone photos are wonderful - I think I can smell the pine.

Hoping I can back to doing Nature Notes next week. Hope Michelle will be well enough to do more by then, too. She sounds great on Facebook.

I spent a good deal of time yesterday afternoon watching a mama cardinal bath at our birdbath too.

Oh Carver, your tree blossoms...breathtaking...I can almost smell their lovely fragrance from here.

Such beautiful blooms - great photos! I'm envious - our garden and yard hasn't blossomed yet - and it's been freezing the past two days!
