I went to my neighborhood lake Friday morning to go on a photo walk before the storm moved in and delivered some much needed rain. I had a pleasant walk, snapped some pictures, and then we got some rain which rejuvenated everything.
There were quite a few parents with children who were feeding the ducks and geese at the lake and the competition was fierce. There were food fights and it amused me to hear small children saying, bad ducks, fighting is bad. Their mothers were agreeing with the children that fighting was bad and I guess the lesson about the pros and cons to feeding wild animals could wait for another day.
I was fascinated with how the geese and ducks would sense a new group of children at a different area in the lake and make a beeline for the new source of food. The take off, flight plans, and landings are particularly impressive given how congested the lake is this time of year.Although this post is focused on the canadian geese, there are numerous different types of ducks which are part of this feeding frenzy and I posted photographs of some of them below in the blogger award and thank you post I did earlier today.
To find other participants in weekend snapshot you can go here. There are instructions at the WS site on how to join in the fun. Since the official post day is Monday, please check back at WS for other participants, if you are interested. I'm looking forward to seeing what the others have done this weekend.
lovely landing shots! I think it's great that the kids get to interact with wildlife at your place; that's a wonderful start to understanding nature. :)
WOW! Awesome shots! I love the last pic:) Have a great start of the week!
great shots-yes fighting is bad-but you are right how people do not understand that "wild" life is just that.
Enjoy what is left of your weekend!

Do it, or not - it's entirely up to you!

Thanks for all the weekend snapshot visitors. I've enjoyed your shots too. I need to get some work done so it may take me a while to visit any who post later today.
Stine the link goes to your profile and that says it's not open to the public so I couldn't see what you tagged me for. I may have gone to your site and not realized it was you if Stine isn't in the site name. I need to get some work done but if you post a link I can visit, I'll go there as soon as I can.
Hi Carver! Thanks for making the effort... Don't know what happened, my profile was suddenly not public. It is now!
I was just glad I could find it and now I know to try google when this happens. I've noticed it happening with quite a few photohunters. Maybe blogger changes end up making some private without us knowing it. Take care, Carver
Hi Carver, ducks are smart enough, they knew already when there are a lot of children, there's plenty of foods too.
Have a wonderful week!
Great shots! :-)
Mine is up too!
The geese almost flying - great shot.
Thanks for stopping by my blog.
BEEUUUTIFUL! I love the ducks. I can't wait to show them to my son. He'll love these pictures. Thanks for visiting my site!
