Photohunters: Sturdy Home

I have provided a sturdy home for many birds through the years.

The nuthatch below is saying, honey I've returned to our sturdy home.

The first four shots show the sturdy bird homes on the driveway side of my house.

The large sturdy home below was originally for the downy woodpeckers so they'd stop trying to enlarge the entry holes on the homes that were too small for them. In recent years the large home has been confiscated by the squirrels. The nuthatch was checking out how the other half lives below.

The chickadee below is at the door to its sturdy home which is on the back side of my house. I have ten of the small nesting boxes in all. Eight are under the roof eaves (both sides and back) and two are on my swingset garden. I also have a lot over overgrown bushes which provide a good habitat for nest building.

Fortunately the hawk didn't land on either of the sturdy homes on part of the old swing set, that has been used for climbing plants in my garden after my daughter grew up. I fear that it would have been a demolished home under the weight of the hawk.

Click for the Photohunters sturdy theme, and/or click for the Photohunters home theme. By the way, I've posted some of these shots on my blogs in the past but when I saw what the two themes were, these birdhouse shots seemed to fit so well I used them again. This is another week where it seemed like the two separate photohunt hosts (Gattina and Sandy) collaborated to come up with themes that would go well together. Amazing that they didn't.

I envy you living in the natural beauty God's creations. It would be lovely having the birds chirping around the house.

I continue to be amazed at how well you do in combining these two memes (although the birdhouses definitely were a gimme!). I thought the photo hunts were supposed to be to use old photos anyway! (I'm glad you did because I haven't seen them before -- and anyway I'm sure everybody would be happy to see them again.

Your birds are remarkable as always and they always seem to have personalities!

Fun post, Carver? So many birds share the use of the homes you provide? If so, are they seasonal dwellers/visitors? ;b

do you have to clean the bird house after each season?

I Love Birding...so these images, all of them, were such a special treat to me. And indeed, sturdy home for the feathered ones.

Mine's HERE if you'd care to join me. My first since TNChick stopped hosting long ago.

Happy weekend.

Thanks to everyone for visiting. To answer questions: the birds use the birdhouses for nesting in the spring. I do have year round birds but the birdhouses are mostly used as nesting boxes. I haven't cleaned them out in a long time but the birds seem to do that themselves. I see them removing and adding to the boxes interior. I'm sure it would be better if I did have them cleaned but I can't handle getting that high on a ladder at this point in my life.

I didn't even notice the nuthatch houses at first, you've tucked them away...

Next weekend we will be 'reflecting' at The Saturday PhotoHunt.
See you there

I'm afraid that the home we put out for the birds isn't as sturdy as yours . . . we'll be replacing it soon! great shots for this week's theme.
