Nature Notes: Beating the heat

June has arrived with excruciating heat but fortunately the plants are doing well due to plenty of rain.

The cardinal above is beating the heat within the shade of my dogwood tree.

I shot the American Robin above in Grace Garden (Durham, NC) which has plenty of shade.

I had to pick up some work from my office in Durham and took a few minutes to see how Grace Gardens was doing.

It's clear that in spite of an unusually hot start to June, adequate rain is leaving everything in good form.

The American Robins were abundant in Grace Garden as they are at my house too.

It's nice to have so many shade trees in my neck of the woods. The shot above was taken at Grace Gardens but I have a lot of shade trees myself.

I photographed the juvenile towhee above in my neighbor's yard.

The blue jay above was enjoying a nice long bath on my deck as was the catbird below.

It's nice to see everything is so lush and healthy looking. You must have sent some of your heat to Canada. I'm willing to let you have it back. I like it cooler. :)

I love the blue jay shot of him taking a bath. It's been pretty hot here as well, but it's supposed to be breaking and cooler weather is coming.

Delightful Jay shot! Lovely gardens. Your robins, like our blackbirds, like for forage in shady places. I guess that is quite natural since they are looking for worms. What keeps those gardens looking good is also a good cover of mulch. Lovely post.

Beautiful garden, and the bathing beauties made me smile.

It's way to hot here, too. Hope you cool off soon.
