Nature Notes: Hitchhiker

usenaturenote hitching2

Sometimes nature decides to come inside. In this case a little moth or butterfly flew inside my car.

I was getting my mail from the box at the bottom of my driveway, and while the car window was down a flash of color flew by my face.

When I spotted the hitchhiker, I rolled up the car window and grabbed my camera. I felt a little guilty about taking photographs before I let him leave. However, as soon as I finished and rolled the window back down he was able to fly back and feast on the lantana by my mailbox.

He'll probably be more careful about hitchhiking next time.

A serendipitous photo opportunity. I'm glad he survived his temporary imprisonment.

Wow, that's an absolute beauty! The first pic with the reflection is wonderful. And I'm sure it wasn't any the worse off for starring in a photoshoot :)

Maybe he was headed out for a snack of lantana and just knew the best ones were .. and how to get there ..

Beautiful! What a lucky moment. I love the way the wings are doubled in the reflection.

Funny how these opportunities just present themselves - and sometimes we can actually get our cameras!

I think what you've got there is a Pearl Crescent butterfly, Carver. Nice one!
