Weekend Snapshot: Number 38

I usually work on my home computer but I had to go to the office in Durham on Tuesday for a meeting, and I had my camera with me. I didn't take the time to stop and take any pictures but I did manage to take a few from my car in downtown Durham near my office. The Durham Athletic Park above is where the baseball scenes in the movie Bull Durham were shot. Although the Durham Bulls moved to a much larger athletic park in 1995, the old park above is still used for amateur leagues. The old park happens to be close to my office so I snapped a shot on the way there. What I was surprised by was that after I left the office to drive home I noticed the mural below.
The mural made me think that perhaps the baseball had been knocked out of the park and was sailing over a skyscraper. You can click inside the photo above to get a better look at the mural and I also did a recent post with a closeup of the mural on my other blog. Before I got on the freeway that would take me home (I live about 30 miles from my office which is why I LOVE working from home), I took a few photographs of the downtown Durham neighborhoods which have been fixed up.In some ways Raleigh where I live, and Durham where my office is have both had a move back downtown in terms of the neighborhoods. The older houses which used to be decrepit and falling apart have been restored and fixed up and it's nice to see that. That's it for my weekend snapshots. I went for a walk on Sunday (today) with Bill on a new trail I stumbled across on Monday and found out where it hooked up with the trails I'm familiar with but I'll save that for another post.

On Monday participants post links at the home of WS where you can find out how to participate here - Weekend Snapshot

I enjoyed reading your journey. The snaps are good and I liked your interpretaion: "the baseball had been knocked out of the park and was sailing over a skyscraper".

I love your pictures, as always, but most especially how you tell your stories about them. Those houses look pretty neat and new.

Ooohh, so that's where the mural came from. I love that movie, Bull Durham, by the way.

i like looking at old victorian style or clapboard houses. basically because we don't have much of those here :) here in the philippines, when you say old houses, they're almost creepy.

what a pretty neighborhood you have!

Thanks to everyone for visiting. I may not have made it clear but the old houses aren't in my neighborhood. They are in downtown Durham and are probably close to 100 years old or more. I live in a boring suburban neighborhood that was built in 1968. The houses where I live are all pretty similar although there is your basic split level and your basic one story like mine. There are some nice gardens here and there and we have great trails to walk on where I live but the house aren't very interesting until you get into the much older neighborhoods. Although I guess mine is getting old but it's relatively new compared to the old ones closer to downtown both in Raleigh and Durham.

What beautiful homes, I see similar style houses in the odd movie scene(s), and have always been a little in love with them.
