Today's Flowers and Weekend Flowers: Corner Stores

There are corner stores at an intersection that have flowers I tend to photograph.

The large flower above is a canna lily but I'm not sure what the bush behind it is. Below is a red rose but the light made it look pink.

The next two shots are of petunias.

I used to grow petunias from seeds in my greenhouse but I haven't done that in years.

Photohunters: Swanky and a nature macro

I may be reaching but following is what I came up with to combine the two photohunters themes: swanky and a nature macro. Below is a nature macro of a bee having a swanky feast on the hydrangea flower. After all swanky is in the eyes of the beholder: swanky to me or you might be boring for a bumble bee and visa versa.

Nature Notes: Summer ending soon

I think the American Robin looks great all fluffed out in the bath although the lighting wasn't very good and the shot is poor.

The mockingbird was fussing me out.

Then she went back to her bath.

It was nice to see a butterfly for a change.

 I haven't seen many butterflies this summer.

 

 This one hung out on my deck for a long photo shoot and then flew up to a plant growing in my roof gutter.

I'm starting to see trees begin to change colors which is very early for central NC where I live.

I like the way tree stumps look  when they are left in the ground.

The tree belonging to the stump below was lying across a garden path after a storm. The tree was recently removed but the stump remains.

I wonder if the Japanese Maple below will ever emerge from the umbrella of the elephant ears.

Usually by this time of the summer many flowers are going to seed but this year there are still plenty of fresh flowers.

Today's Flowers and Weekend Flowers: Out and about in early August

I'm going to start with shots I took of flowers at a corner shopping area this week.

The rain and cooler than normal summer has kept the flowers looking fresh.

Normally by August many flowers would be brown and dying back.

This August everywhere I go the flowers look fresh and happy.

It definitely improves my mood when I see lovely flowers all over the place.

The rest of the shots are ones I took at Grace Garden this week.

I love seeing so many yellow flowers.

I like the shades of color in the rose below.

Photohunters: a play of light and blue

There is frequently a play of light behind clouds and I found shots that also had a touch of blue.

In some ways I pay more attention to light play behind clouds than when it's a sunny day.

These shots were all taken this week.

If I had looked through my archives I might have found better examples of light play but I didn't have time for that.
