Nature Notes: Late Fall

Hard to believe that fall is almost over.
natnotDSCN8148
It has continued to be wet which I don't mind too much.
natnoteDSCN8140
I like the raindrops dripping off the bittersweet berries above.
natntDSCN8130
It helps my sinuses when the fallen leaves are wet.
natnotDSCN8150
It is nice to have a few days when the sun comes out.
natnotDSCN8179
The Virginia Creeper has climbed up my house to decorate the birdhouses.
natnoteDSCN8159
The robins are spending more time in the trees as it gets colder.
natnotDSCN8257
The male cardinals have each claimed a bird bath.
natntDSCN8369
It's nice to still have some color from the leaves to brighten grim days.
natnotDSCN8306
The birds are getting increasingly active.
natntcDSCN8318
They still take breaks from food gathering to catch a bath like the male cardinal above and the female cardinal below.
natntcDSCN8329
The sparrow is waiting for its turn to bathe below.
natntDSCN8325
The male cardinal is perched on top of my deck swing in the next shot.
natntDSCN8350
The rufous-sided towhee below is in my front yard.
natnoteDSCN8418
The sparrow below is watching the towhee and waiting to catch a bath in my front yard.
natnoteDSCN8426
After the birds finish, I filled up the bath.
natnoteDSCN8431
Photographing the birds reminds me to put fresh water in the bird baths.

Wow..it is so refreshing to see all of these pictures. The colorful leaves and the birds are such a joy.

I like your line about how taking the photos reminds you to do the water. I forget to do my guinea pig's cage, then I feel guilty when I finally do remember.

I like seeing the Virgina Creeper. And I always like seeing a cardinal.

Lovely series of images, Carver! Of course, I love all the birds. I wish i saw the Towhee in my yard, you are lucky! Have a great day and a happy Thanksgiving!

Thank you for sharing your wonderful yard (I swear it could qualify as a bird sanctuary!)...Love the idea that they're waiting their turn for a bath.

You really do get a nice collection of birds at your baths. I never see a towhee and rarely see a white-throated sparrow. It was wet and now it is warmer and sunny but moving toward snow this weekend...Michelle
