Nature Notes: Late Fall
Hard to believe that fall is almost over.
It has continued to be wet which I don't mind too much.
I like the raindrops dripping off the bittersweet berries above.
It helps my sinuses when the fallen leaves are wet.
It is nice to have a few days when the sun comes out.
The Virginia Creeper has climbed up my house to decorate the birdhouses.
The robins are spending more time in the trees as it gets colder.
The male cardinals have each claimed a bird bath.
It's nice to still have some color from the leaves to brighten grim days.
The birds are getting increasingly active.
They still take breaks from food gathering to catch a bath like the male cardinal above and the female cardinal below.
The sparrow is waiting for its turn to bathe below.
The male cardinal is perched on top of my deck swing in the next shot.
The rufous-sided towhee below is in my front yard.
The sparrow below is watching the towhee and waiting to catch a bath in my front yard.
After the birds finish, I filled up the bath.
Photographing the birds reminds me to put fresh water in the bird baths.
Wow..it is so refreshing to see all of these pictures. The colorful leaves and the birds are such a joy.
I like your line about how taking the photos reminds you to do the water. I forget to do my guinea pig's cage, then I feel guilty when I finally do remember.
I like seeing the Virgina Creeper. And I always like seeing a cardinal.
Lovely series of images, Carver! Of course, I love all the birds. I wish i saw the Towhee in my yard, you are lucky! Have a great day and a happy Thanksgiving!
so lovely Carver.... it was 20 degrees when I woke up yesterday... winter is moving in for sure! If you have time tomorrow or perhaps Sunday or Monday, please stop by to visit the gratitude quilt and add words of gratitude of your own in the comment box below... it will be posted early Thursday morning, November 22nd. Happy Thanksgiving!
lovely birds and autumn leaves. The towhee is very handsome!
Thank you for sharing your wonderful yard (I swear it could qualify as a bird sanctuary!)...Love the idea that they're waiting their turn for a bath.
How cute the Virginia creeper is decorating your bird houses! You really make a nice home for the birds with the bird baths, too. Happy Thanksgiving :)
You really do get a nice collection of birds at your baths. I never see a towhee and rarely see a white-throated sparrow. It was wet and now it is warmer and sunny but moving toward snow this weekend...Michelle
Beautiful images! Those pretty fall hues, the cardinals, the leaves...all just lovely!
