Photohunters: Cooking and ripple

Many a ripple can be spotted in the ocean and many a sunbather can be spotted cooking their tender flesh on the beach.

Fortunately some people seek shade under umbrellas.

I always tried to protect my daughter's skin on the beach because she inherited her Dad's fair complexion.
PHcookripplIMG_0174
She used to ask me why I protected her skin but didn't use sunscreen myself.
phcookripIMG_0290
My ignorant answer was that I tanned rather than burned since I had a darker complexion than hers.

I'm the one who ended up with advanced melanoma. Although I've done well since the lymph nodes the melanoma had spread to were removed, I've known many melanoma patients who weren't as lucky as me and sadly died.

I'm glad you're all right. Great shots of the beach and I too tended not to protect myself, and always thought of the kids.

An important message! My Mom used to always make sure we wore hats and used sun lotion too. I am happy to hear you recovered. My step Dad had a cancerous tumour on his ear removed. He always wore baseball caps were his ears stuck out and they were exposed to the sun. Great take on both themes!

Beautiful beach scenes. Clever combination of both themes and a very important message!! you'll never find me sunbathing anymore, always under a sunshade and using a sunblocker,

I am fair complexioned and dislike being under the sun.

I am glad you are well. *Hugs*

so glad you have beaten this thing.

asians in general are not into sunbathing. "we" abhor getting under the sun because well, fair skin is premium in our cultures :)

but the weather this weekend is going to be cooking so i think a little jaunt to the beach is in order.

I always thought the same as you. Since I tanned easily, I didn't think I needed sunscreen. So far, all my skin things are benign. Not so for my husband and sons. Thanks for the reminders with all those beautiful "ripples" you had for the theme this week.

Great ripples and interesting how the ripples in life come back and get us at a later date. Glad you are fine

wonderful images! i didn't use any skin protection when i was younger because i'm brown-skinned...until the doctor saw my sunburn and advised me to use sunscreen everyday.

An important lesson there - protect yourself while enjoying those ripples of water at the beach!

Have a good weekend.

Yes, the sun's rays seem to be more dangerous than they used to be - good advice! Inviting shots of the
beach life, however....

Great message... unfortunately true for so many of us.
I still enjoy those ripples of the beach from under an umbrella!
Happy Hunting~
