Photohunters: Numerical

The numerical year when Briggs Hardware in downtown Raleigh was built is on the top of the building.
Photobucket
You don't need a numerical year on the top of the Wachovia building (tall far right building below) to know it wasn't built in 1874 when the Briggs building was built. The numerical address for Briggs is 220 Fayetteville St. The numerical address for the Wachovia building is 150 Fayetteville St. The numerical addresses don't make sense because I only see 4 buildings in between Briggs and Wachovia.

For more photohunters, visit the home of the hunt where participants post their links beginning Saturday mornings.

Beautiful old buildings! I wonder what is up with the numbering of the addresses?

Happy photo hunting, and happy weekend :)

This is a tough theme and you did great. I love that old hardware store; I've never seen it before. Will have to look for it the next time I'm in downtown Raleigh.

Happy weekend.

I don't see why there is a gap in numbering building and houses. In my old neighborhood there was a six number gap between houses and we live in a townhouse neighborhood; we're attached to one another.

Great take.

I wonder who decides what the numbers will be when a new building goes up.

I like to see old buildings with the new. The old reminds us there's a bit of history and the new that there's a future.

the old buildings just speak to my heart but too bad they all don't tell me the year they were built:)

There's so much heritage in that building but I don't like the maintenance numeric figures. :P

Very interesting. Street numbers rarely make sense. But I guess the post office understands them. Great pictures of some great buildings.

That is a beautiful building :) It must have been an old and new system of numbering that got mixed :)
