Photohunt: Old Fashioned

The photohunt theme this week is old fashioned. I have an old photograph album from my father's side of the family. The album is old fashioned, the people in the album look old fashioned by contemporary standards, and some of them were probably old fashioned even by their century's standards. I vaguely recall my father telling me who some of the people in the album were but unfortunately I don't remember much. He didn't know who everyone in the album was but he pointed out his grandmother and a few others to me. He got this album after his last Aunt on his mother's side of the family died and I kept it after my father died. If I were to venture a guess, I'm reasonably sure the old fashioned lady below was my father's grandmother. I can't even guess about who the children below were but they are certainly old fashioned looking.
The next two are not only old fashioned looking but they are also a bit frightening looking. I wouldn't want to be on their bad side.
I like the clasp on this old fashioned photograph album. It makes it look like a diary.I like the old fashioned lettering on the first page after you open the album.

One last photograph. This old fashioned man is rather dapper looking. Dapper is a rather old fashioned word, now that I think of it.
I hope everyone has a great weekend. If you want to learn more about photohunter or find other participants you can go to this link - You can also find other participants on technorati -

Hello Carver, I see your father's grandmother's face is still in yours and your daughters. A good example of what adoptee's are looking for in their roots search.
You have so many talents, Gia

Hi Gia, It is fun for me to be able to look back on old photographs and see the family resemblance. I like this album in particular because it's well preserved although some of the photographs are so old the images are fading away. As ever, Carver

This is an interesting and precious album. During my grandparents' time, they couldn't afford a camera or to pay to have their photos taken, so there were no photos of them.

I have no idea how my ancestors look like.

It's pretty nice to be able to have an album with most of your ancestors in it. An album to be cherished with love and TLC. Maybe you can bring the pictures for some photo restoration :)

Great series of shots! We have some scary looking old photo's, too, with some folks we don't know who they are. You'd think they never had any fun in those days...

Wow you are sooo lucky to have those old photos! Unfortunately all of our really old photo albums are still with my family in Switzerland. My mom has a few photos here, but we really need to get some over here...
gorgeous!
Great take on the theme (i am afraid I wimped out and you will need a real stretch of the imagination with my old fashion!)
LOVELY tunnel!
I bet you there is a way to get the tunnel from further away. you might need a tripod and a slow shutter speed. try it (to humour me) by placing your camera on the ground and do you have a timer? Set it and set slow shutter speed and see what happens? Unless you have a tripod and then you don't have to set it on the ground ;) oh long comment?

Superb pictures! We have a very similar album, and like you, I don't rememebr who many of the people are. Lovely to have, nevertheless, but my mission is to document our more recent photos for generations to come.

It's great that you have kept that old album in the family. It's nice to see photos of your ancestors. Thanks for sharing.

You really do find the neatest things for the Photo Hunt themes...
That album is in such good condition, Carver! It is a good thing that you have it and can keep it in such good care. Is it true that people had to sit (or stand) for a very long time to have their photographic portrait made back then? 'Tis no wonder that nobody ever smiled! Or it could have been all those ruffles and corsets and stuff.
I thank God everyday for Lycra.
:)
Love, K.

Some photographers take reality... and impose the domination of their own thought and spirit. Others come before reality more tenderly and a photograph to them is an instrument of love and revelation.

Great pictures, Carver! You've reminded me of the antique photo album I have myself, although the pics are not of my family. They're someone else's family. I always thought it would be nice to track them down and give them the album.

Have a great Saturday!

Hi carver! That is absolutely gorgeous! And you're right, people looked so serious back then. I'm with you on the clasp; they just don't make things like that anymore.

What a wonderful walk down your history lane! My mom and I dug out some old photo albums the other day and I'm having such a ball looking at all of my past relatives.

Great photos giving us a close-up look at your old album. Didn't people in those old days look fierce? Or do you think the photographer told them to look serious and not to smile?

Anonymous said...

I have plenty of photo albums - though none even close to as old as your gorgeous album. The habit of having photo albums sadly has gone out of fashion altogether!

I'm grateful that I can afford the hobby of taking digital photos... but your post set me off thinking. I really should have a few photos printed and fill an album every now and then!

Happy Weekend Carver! :)

Strange. I just posted a comment and it came back with an error saying it was a duplicate. However, I do not see my comment posted. So I am going to try again.

I have an album from my grandmother that I could have scanned some photos from. It looks like yours are more well preserved.

I left a message but I think it wander over to another post. My mind does that somethines, too. Then occasionally it wanders back.

These old photo albums are a treasure--even when we can't identify everybody.

You might want to label those you do know--or have a good idea of. Someoen who comes after you might find that information interesting.
