Weekend Snapshot: Number 39

Saturday I set out with my camera and a plan. I had some shots that I took on walks in March, and intended to post at some point. However, the landscape has changed so much over the past few months from bare trees to full green foliage that I thought it would be fun to take some weekend comparison shots and show what a space of 8 weeks can do. Before I get to that, my first shot was a baseball game that I stumbled across. It hadn't started yet but I snapped a few shots of the families and young players preparing. If you click inside the shot above, you can see that the boy on the left in the red jersey has a red bat. Nice color coordination. Also looks like he's getting some pre-game coaching. Beyond the baseball fields was the first trail where I did some comparison shots. The shot below was taken this Saturday. The next shot was take in March of the same bridge, facing the same way. My what a difference a couple of months makes.
Just past the bridge is the next set of comparison shots. First, another one from this Saturday.
Then another one from the middle part of March. I love all of the seasons and think I'd have trouble living somewhere that didn't have four distinct seasons.
The shots above were all taken at a short trail very close to my house and the last set were taken at a connecting trail a little farther away.
Since there were quite a few people out on the trails Saturday morning, I snapped fast because I'm pretty shy about taking pictures around people. Again, the shot above was taken this Saturday and the one below was taken mid March at the same place.
I do love variety and it's nice to know that given a few months the familiar landscape changes completely.

You know, Carver, I picture you going for walks or hikes every day. So, my question is whether or not you're still keeping track of how many days out of the last how many whatever that you're doing some kind of exercise? Hearing and seeing you walk/hike as much motivates me to do the same. I just wish it would warm up again around here. We had a blast of very hot two weeks ago and we're lucky if we get into the 70s now.

Thanks Sabine and bon voyage.

Hi Dee, I am still keeping track of the walks and I will probably do an exercise log check in post soon. I am not walking as much as I was because I've been beating myself up physically in my garden and believe me my garden is still WILD. I like it wild but if I don't do some then the undesirables take over and the desirables don't have a chance. I count gardening as exercise though because it's strenuous and somewhat aerobic too the way I do it. I am trying to walk as much as possible and do walk fairly regularly but I'm pretty sore and I don't want to take extra pain meds for fear I'll really hurt myself.

The then-and-now contrast makes me feel very grateful for the foliage and aware of how dramatically things have changed. Thanks for this, Carver!

You'll need to do it again in the fall with all the colors. You have a great walking spot.

Hi Carver,
Thanks for answering my question and I completely agree that gardening counts as exercise! It's really rough on your body. Luckily, my dad is helping me out with my yard.

It's a hard balance to strike, huh? Between trying to get enough exercise, but not too much. I'm still trying to find it when using my arm . . .

wow that's a hell of a change :) is it because it's summer or something? sorry, not familiar with your seasons there. but i like the green sceneries better, of course, especially the one at the bridge.

I enjoyed your shots as always. I love the comparisons, too. I have done that with a particular tree, I should post those sometime :)

Thanks so much to everyone for visiting.

Iris it is the end of spring where I live. March through May is spring, June through August in summer, September through November is autumn, December through February is Winter. Those are roughly the seasons in my part of the U.S. Although September is still pretty hot here and our fall foliage doesn't really get going until October.

wow such a very nice and serene place for walk. i love the photos!

I can't get over the different feeling each photo creates with it's image. The same locality but different seasons make it perceptions apart. Totally different.

I have actually entertained this thought of recording the one particular tree through different seasons, I really intend to do it and then I set off with the camera and I am lost in time-gone for all money and forget what I walked out of the house to do, the sheer act of having the camera in my hand seems to have the effect of freezing my once functioning brain cells.

Just go gooo garrr....you can not only make art with your pics but are obviously disciplined.

Thanks again to everyone for visiting and for your thoughtful comments. Pam I'm the same way about forgetting what I set out to do. I had to laugh at that because it sounds so much like me.

Yes, what a difference a few weeks CAN make! But you know I kind of like the start look you captured on the first bridge shot. That probably sounds strange, coming from someone who has complained about the endless dark winter up here so much. Nevertheless, I feel drawn to it. Just enough light to keep it from looking totally bleak, but still a bit stark. Lovely, somehow.

p.s Carver i meant the SECOND bridge shot in the first pair. Wouldn't want you to think I was blind!

Carver said...

Thanks Jocelyn. I know what you mean. There is something about the stark quality with the bare trees that I like too.

I always like to see the same places in different seasons, I love the contrast.
