The cardinal and catbird above were enjoying a bath but if they had waited a few minutes it would have been a shower.
A new family has visited my deck.
I could hardly believe my eyes when 2 adult and 2 young foxes showed up on my deck.
They drank the bird bath water and munched on berries.
They seemed so comfortable on my deck that I doubt it was their first visit.
I wonder if they were attracted to my nighborhood by the fad of keeping hen houses that is very popular at the moment.
I don't have a hen house but my next door neighbors do. The minute the foxes left an American Robin showed up.
Bill and I went to Goldsboro for lunch on Saturday which is about an hour southeast from Raleigh where we live.
It was clear they've been having a lot of rain there too.
The cornfield was behind the restaurant where we ate and the paths in between the rows were flooded.
On the drive there and back everything was green and wet.
We had a very brief time with some blue in the sky.
Back at my house it had rained while we were gone.
My back yard is such a jungle this time of the year.
I've done a little bit of work in my jungle but you can't tell to look at it.
My rose of sharon (Hibiscus syriacus) is beginning to bloom.
I like the way hydrangea leaves hold on to the rain.
Butterfly weed also holds on to rain drops for a long time after it stops raining.

How awesome is that to see a fox family. We saw one for the first time the other day. Great photo series.
I love the foxes. I spent some time a few summers ago looking at foxes so I could paint one. Wow, I'm not sure I would love seeing one directly in my backyard.
You have a lovely shot of rudbeckia among all the other great pics. I can understand the backyard jungle. My backyard keeps growing and growing with all this rain.
... but wonderful close up´s :)
Wow, cool seeing the fox family visit your deck. They may be back if they know there is food and water available. Love the fox, birds and the photos.
Amazing fox shots - so cool they come on the deck!
foxes, if they came to some of my relatives house, they won't last very long.
rain or not, you need to take a bath. :) Love the foxes. Such a treat. :)
Yes... Too much rain.... Amazing photos of the fox family.. Hope they keep the chickens safe.... Michelle
How wonderful to have this wildlife around your house. The foxes seem to feel quite at ease and not shy at all.
Have a wonderful and hopefully dry weekend.

I am in awe that you had Mr Fox on your porch. I took some pictures of a couple of them through the window in Colorado, but whenever any of us go outside they scatter. (and they are in the vacant lot next door, over the fence...they're really spooky).
Your yard is lovely even in the rain.
