American Robins are another bird that don't come to my deck in bad weather but come back as soon as we have a warmer day.
I put fresh water in the bird bath as soon as I saw the robin above at the ice bath.
It's amazing how many waxwings flock to my trees. The next shot only shows a fraction of them.
The hawk below landed so high in a tree and so far from me that I was surprised to be able to zoom in on it at all. In the shot it looks like a small bird but if you look at it's predatory beak you can tell what it is. Also as far away as I was, a small bird would have been a dot.
The female rufous-sided towhee below was eating on my deck in bad weather.
The squirrel below stretched out for a drink before the snow and sleet started.
I enjoyed watching the little titmouse shown below.
You can tell that the sparrow is cold the way it's all puffed out.
I thought the ice covered leaf below was rather strange looking.
I liked the way the icicles hanging from the roof gutter looked.
The male cardinal stood out against the icy vines.
The male rufous-sided towhee has a mouthful.
The female rufous-sided towhee also has a full mouth.
A yellow-rump warbler was snacking on my deck wall.
The female cardinal is ice skating.
I love the way trees look when they are covered in ice.
The bluejay is having breakfast.
A pine sapling lay down under the icy weight.
The mourning doves showed up for ring around the rosie after the ice melted.

What a cut post, the birds are so beautiful!

Happy birds I see...I was curious about your goldfinch as I knew it wasn't that so I did a search until I found what I think it is .. a yellow-rumped warbler known as a butter-butt

I love a mystery as you know..Michelle
love the yellow tipped tails of the waxwings!
Thanks for the ID help Michelle. Eileen also found that for me on my our world post but I didn't see it until I had posted this so I'll fix the I.D.
Hi Carver, I am envious of all your Waxwings. I rarely see them around my yard. You must have lots of berries around to attract them. I think your other bird is a Hermit Thrush. I had one show up this week too.
What a great series of shots. The cedar waxwings are beautiful!
Carver, these are just amazing! That the birds are so happy even in that icy weather just awes me. As do your pictures. I am so envious of your waxwings -- I've never ever seen that many at once. Well, I've never even ever seen that many period. Every time I see a couple of them I am ecstatic ...can't imagine that many in my own backyard. Heaven!
Oh how so many birds even in winter. I love most those in the first shot with yellow tail tips, wonder why the color is so small.
WONDERFUL photos! I think Cedar Waxwings are one of the most beautiful birds there are! All of your birds (and your squirrel) are so sweet though!
What a lot of visitors you have! Wow! And the ice shots are really unique, too.
Beautiful birds at your feeders!
What great photos! I dread ice storms, but they certainly do leave a world of beauty behind, don't they? The hawk you photographed looks slightly like a duck from behind... something about the way it's standing. :)
lots of birds wants your food and drink. Love to see the waxwing as I have not seen them this season. :)
Great collection of "chilly" shots! I would love it if Waxwings visited my place :)
Such cute bird pictures but my favorite is the little squirrel !
O pássaro azul é fantástico, fiquei encantada! Um abraço!
