Weekend Snapshot: Number 58

Bill and I walked around Shelley Lake today (Sunday) and the great blue heron posed for me. I guess I need to try an afternoon walk because I have so much trouble getting a shot which shows off the gray and blue tones of the bird at the spot where I frequently see it in the morning.
This morning before we walked around the lake, the sky got me outside with my camera. I was blown away by the deep blue in combination with the white clouds.
There is so much I enjoy about this time of year but the sky ranks high on the list. There is something about October skies that never fail to blow me away.
There are also unexpected surprises. My azaleas bloom in April in general although some tend to bloom earlier and some later.I almost missed this one out of season bloom near the top of a group of enormous azaleas I have. It was nestled amidst a sea of green and I have no idea why it decided to grace me with its presence in October.
The seasonal color of fall is out in full force but there are also late blooming roses. Even ones that usually don't bloom this late.
I checked to see when the average first frost occurred in my part of North Carolina and it's October 27 so I am going to enjoy the last blooms of the season while they last.

To find other weekend snapshots you can go to the home of WS where participants post on Monday or you can browse for early birds on technorati .

These are wonderful views, my friend. I love the heron shot. These creatures can be a challenge to photograph. They are not only elusive but also iridescent. Your capture is just lovely.

Okay so when I visit here I am hearing James Taylor you realise, and what rich vibrant color your world is.

Carver, what did we ever do before digital cameras?

Our skies sometime match up, I see some of your sky photos and it reminds me of somedays here.

Our afternoon light is different to the rest of the world, actually even from here to an Ozzy city even, it is Mallee region light, outback light. I'm still trying to understand this world.

nice shots there, carver. i see you still have roses blooming there. my neighbor's roses are all withering now. it's a pity sight. she has hundreds of them in all colors and they seem to be shrinking everytime i see them.
