Photohunt: What IS That ?

What IS that?; happens to be the photohunt theme this week. So without further ado: What IS that? chirps the goldfinch with a piercing look from the safety of the redbud tree. What IS That ? squeaks the squirrel as he faces off with a fighter's stance.
Editorial Note - Thanks to Patricia, I fixed the next one. I had the catbird mixed up with a teenage mockingbird. I do need to stop guessing about what teenagers will look like.

What IS that ? squeals the catbird in it's scariest voice.
What IS that ? mews the neighbor's cat awakened from his nap time visit.
What IS that ? clicks the wren from the safety of the mulberry tree.
What IS that ? inquires the rabbit on it's way to the delicious stand of weeds.
What IS that ? inquires the robin as she prepares for her leisurely bath.

What IS that ? barks the dog with a slightly worried look.
What IS that? asks the alien with antennas quivering.
Clomp, clomp, bam, bam, then it stops and click, click goes the metallic instrument in the scary purple big foot's hand. No one sticks around to find out what it IS, if they had I would have answered, I come in peace.
I hope everyone has a great weekend. You can browse other photohunt support posts on technorati here - and at the photohunt home on Saturday here -

Thanks to everyone for visiting my photohunt. I thought I'd mention that I photographed the alien standing on my car and after I downloaded the pic I realized it looked like it was standing on a planet peering off to outerspace (or at least it did to me). Happy weekend.

Great pics; even better when woven into a tale.
Or is that squirreldogcatrabbitbirdalien tail?
Love, K.

I said Mr. Purple People Eater, what's your line?
He said it's eatin' purple people and it sure is fine.
But that's not the reason that I came to land.
I wanna get a job in a rock and roll band.

Thanks to everyone for visiting and to answer the question about where they were taken, all except the one with the dog are at my house. The dog was on a trail at my neighborhood park. The tan siding behind the mockingbird is my neighbor's house but the bird is in my tree.

Ahhh, I am so interested in all your wild life. :)

Outside my window I have crimson rosellas, mapgies, cockatoos and galahs.

And there are kangaroos in the fields, every single time you go out in the car.

Thanks so much to everyone for visiting. I'm enjoying guessing on the posts that don't supply the answer. Now I'll have to remember to check back Monday for answers on those posts.

What a great take on the theme! The little bunny is too adorable.

Anonymous said...

I'm sorry about the link not working on mine. All my settings are public, but for some reason it is showing private. I went ahead and posted "the answer" on my post.

Patricia said...

Very, very clever, Carver!

One question/comment. Are you sure that isn't a catbird instead of mockingbird?

Hope you are having a wonderful weekend, and thanks for stopping by to see my "what is it".

Carver said...

Thanks Patricia. You are absolutely right. I was thinking that catbirds were teenage mockingbirds. I really need to stop thinking I can guess about the younger birds because I am always wrong. I have a lot of mockingbirds and know what they look like but whenever I shoot a catbird, I think it's a skinny mockingbird which is WRONG. Thanks a bunch for telling me which one it is.

Patricia said...

It just so happens that the catbird is a fairly new bird to me which is why I noticed it. The black cap caught my eye. It has only been the last couple of years that I saw one in the thickets down by the creek and searched to identify him. I learned that they are more often heard than seen, which makes our ability to photograph them a blessing, eh? I have only seen a catbird one other time, when one briefly flew into one of our backyard trees.

LOL on the teenager comment!

Love the squirrel and the insect! Until recently, we probably would ask "what IS that?" about the crocs :)
Great idea for this week's theme.

Susan Cook said...

Wow cool! You have a lot of wildlife in your neighborhood. I love the birds! And I'd love to see a bunny in my yard!

what lovely birds you have in your backyard!

my first answer to the first bird was already wrong. :)

happy Sunday!

Sienna said...

I love the squirrel, that is incredible the little creature stood still long enough, I picture them to be quick, jerky and timid..the alien shot did have me stumped, the birds over in USA are so cute, so varied.

Aren't Croc's just the most comfortable footwear, I have nearly worn out my first pair, I cannot believe the comfort the bit of strategically placed plastic offers.

I am honing in my close snapping then, just gotta find the close up button thingo, that may well make a difference. Thankyou!

Pam

Yes, the bees are way down in numbers, they used to hive up all around the old trees, they are very sparse.

I love the sequence of all the pictures! As always, your pictures are wonderful! Great take on the theme!
