I enjoy the resident Canadian Geese this time of year when they tend to walk in the grass, sometimes in line as if they are playing follow the leader. You can click inside the photos to get more detail, if you like.
For a while there was a lot of commotion about how they were taking over the area golf courses. The solution ended up being border collies. The collies chase them off and apparently after a while they stopped going back to those golf courses. My neighborhood lake is a popular spot for the Canadian Geese, but the population seems about right. There are many different types of geese, egrets, heron, and other birds that hang out their too.
Occasionally there are traffic jams between the runners, walkers, bicyclist and geese but I've never seen any actual collision. It is funny how they will cross the path right in front of you as if to say, I have the right of way.
I know that all the wildlife is happy that we've had a wet spring and summer so far. The drought of 2007 will not be forgotten quickly, at least not by me.

They do have the right of way, Carver. I love the way you put pictures together with the story. Nicely done.
Nicely done. Wonderful series of photos. I love Canada Geese. Don't see them much where I live now.
Thanks so much for your comments. I appreciate it.
what a great photo! I love how you got them all to walk in a line for you! ;-) It would be wild to see so many treking across the hills.
I love geese! They always sound so happy, like the party is just around the corner. Kudos to Border Collies for teaching them not to stick around the golf course where they aren't wanted. Same for airports where it sucks to get sucked into the exhaust of large aircraft.
HonkHonkHonk.
(Speaking of birds...I saw some long legged pink birds standing on a lawn the other day; I thought 'who still uses tacky pink flamingos as lawn ornaments? Then they all walked into the next yard.) We also have seen wild parrots and other gorgeous birds here.
NOW BTW...those eyes of yours are gorgeous! It must have been fun to win some fun new make-up. Congrats.
And more congrats for the walking.
And for being strong and determined.
Love you, Buddy.

For every beauty there is an eye somewhere to see it. For every truth there is an ear somewhere to hear it. For every love there is a heart somewhere to receive it.

as much as people are affected by climate change, im sure these geese are as well affected. what's sad is they don't deserve this.
i like those ducks walking in groups.
They are cute but a bit of a pest and they are everywhere, one of Canada's most prolific "exports". Watch where you walk Carver!
Carver,
I haven't had much internet time lately but just did a quick browse of your recent entries.
You look great! I've seen many other women in the Asheville area that remind me of you. We must meet one day!!
I love your pics as usual.
You are a winner!!! Yeah, yeah,
Stay Strong
Kathie
Thanks again to everyone for visiting. Don I agree that climate change is especially hard on the wildlife and they don't deserve it. Kathie I hope we do get to meet soon. I haven't been to Asheville yet this summer but if I do I'll call. Kim, I'm thinking about you today and hope you are done with the checkup and get an ALL clear. Love, C
