Nature Notes: December 1 through 7

A cold front moved in on the first of December providing some beautiful cloud formations.
naturenodesclfrtdec1
The house next door to me has a tree that held its late fall foliage for a few days while most of my leaves had dropped. Below my oak still has a few leaves but most are gone.

December 4 was a surprise because it started snowing.
naturenoteschrstrdec4
I like the way the leaves that are still on my oak tree looked against the snow.
naturenotesoaklvdec4
I particularly like the way red berries look in the snow and have already been bombarding my blogs with shots of them.

On the fifth day of December the sun came out and the trees look like they have sugar frosting.
naturenotessugctdec5
I think blue sky with snow is a very beautiful combination.
naturnotemrsugctdec5
By the sixth of December any snow that didn't melt has stuck around because it is very cold.
natnoteivylvdec6
Unfortunately the snow that melted on my deck isn't the part I have to walk across to add warm water to the bird bath. All the bird shots were taken on December 7.
naturnotelitbrddec7
The cardinal below was singing outside my door to remind me that they needed some more water.
naturenotecarddec7
I have been carefully making it across to the bird bath with fresh water and am ending up with a pile of frozen empties.
natnotebrddec7
The birds reward me with photo-ops for nature notes.

É muito interessante para mim, ver como se forma a frente fria com neve, pois por aqui está muito calor e a frente fria forma chuva! Da maneira cque voc~e colocou o texto e as fotos, parece que estou aí observando rudo isso! Leio e viajo! Parabéns!

I am so jealous of the bird bath shots! I keep wanting to do that. I guess I should spring for a heated bird bath in these parts. These are all very good shots - bright and clear. I love them.

How beautiful your last oak leaves look against the snow and all those lovely birds who come for cocktails at your place and I am sure stay for a bite as well.
Those two bluebirds are heart stealers and they have just flown away with mine.

A lovely weekly repost from your side of the world.

You are working hard to maintain water in that dish! I would love to have a heated bird bath.

Love the empties...Oh you have blue birds and at first I thought an american tree sparrow, but it's a white-throated sparrow...I love how you really do write a true nature journal type post.. it inspires me to do more.....

Rambling Woods said...

PS..white throated sparrows can be identified from other sparrows as they have yellow near the bill...

are those two bluish birds chickadees?
your sky photo reminded me that I took a photo of a perfect circle in the sky with clouds all around; like someone had taken a perfect cookie out of the center. very odd - i suppose the hills could have whipped them into this design from half moon bay,
