Nature Notes: Dominant sound is made by the crickets
The title for this week's Nature Notes post and the photographs have absolutely nothing to do with each other.
The extremely loud sound of the crickets, particularly in the evening and morning, drowns everything out in my garden. I considered posting a recording of their voices but decided you would probably take my word for it. The male cardinal above stands out against the green leaf cover above. The American robin below blends into its cover a bit better.

Dear Carver,
I liked so much the idea about the "voices"or sound of those birds, please, it would be wonderful!
I'm not good to recognize their beautiful melody but I'm always happy here learning with your posts!Merci!
hugs
Léia
I do like the sound of crickets! I haven't heard any yet here yet...but soon for sure.
Great shot of the cardinal. Funny how the robin is hiding, though. In my yard it's the other way around: the robins are bold, the cardinals shy. :)
lovely to see the birds in your life!
There's a noisy blue bird here in our compound too =)
This is so nice idea !!I really enjoyed the post !!Thanks for sharing !!
We get cardinals and robins in our yard. And this morning the crickets were loud! I remarked on this to my daughter.
Timely title...crickets are chirping loudly as I type this.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Chris
The crickets are in full cry here in Indiana, too. I like them as much as the frogs in spring.
Nice shots of the birds. Cardinals must have missed the memo on camouflage.
I love the sounds of summer insects especially at night..Lovely cardinal....
