Nature Notes and Weekend Snapshot - Sights of Late Spring

This has been a pleasant spring where I live. Maybe a little on the wet side but that beats the alternative. It's also been cooler than usual but now that it's getting hot, I am reminded why I like the cooler weather. There is so much going on in the natural world. This rabbit stopped in front of my neighbor's garage for an extended photo shoot.
I often meet the neighborhood cats before I meet the new neighbors they are attached to. The cat below is new to the neighborhood or at least new to my deck. It's amazing how many different cats come and hang out on my deck until I ask them to please leave so the birds can come out of the trees for a bath.
Alright little robin redbreast it's safe for you once again. Feel free to come down for a dip.
It's also nice to see the children outside playing although it makes me nervous when they skate board and ride their scooters in grocery store parking lots as these kids were doing today.
The little buggies are starting to hang out with the flowers. I enjoy finding them in macro shots where I didn't even know there were bugs until I downloaded the shots.
The bugs in both of these shots are the size of seeds and I actually thought they were seeds when I took the macro shots. The hydrangea bushes are started to form their flowers although they are a ways off from the bright blue blossoms they will have in a few weeks.
It's also nice to see my ornamental grasses beginning to grow back and form plumes. The plume below is on a variety called orientalis which I like because of it's redish almost purple tinge.I was pleased that my iceplant survived past droughts. It died back early during a previous drought but continued to return in the spring. The last shot is almost unrecognizable as an iceplant flower because they are so tiny and I got so close with the macro shot that it almost looks like a daisy. The shot above is also a macro so the actual flowers are even smaller than that shot too.To visit other participants, please go to the home of Nature Notes and/or Weekend Snapshot.

Your deck must have a friendly feel to it for those cats to hang out long in it :-) I love the macro shot, and that's a sweet picture of the rabbit. Your posts never cease to amaze me!

Wonderful narrative to go with the photos...We have outdoor cats here too, but with coyotes around, it isn't a good idea to let them out, but I too have them in the yard driving my cats crazy. Isn't it great when you take a photo and find something unexpected in it? Great Nature Notes post. I don't think linky is working so I will add your link to the main post..Happy Memorial Day Carter..

Teaching has kept me too busy to visit around lately. I really like the flower pictures. A few months ago I never thought we would see flowers again!

Nice round-up of critters in your yard! I've been noticing birds more lately - the cedar waxwings are back in the red hot pokers, I saw a red-throated hummingbird the other day, and a group of geese flying north appeared overhead last night, honking all the way. Fun stuff!

Love the flowers, as usual! My rhodies and irises and this small ground cover and my roses are all blooming. Love it!

It is a feeling of rambling through the desert and finally finding an oasis. Your environment is the oasis. So beautiful.

I laughed a bit too much at the robin trying to get down a blackberry whole, hope it knew next time to peck stuff a little first.

Great to catch up Carver, we had 25mm (an inch) of rain yesterday, it was amazing, at the moment there are little sparrows splashing and shaking and bathing in water puddles outside my window in the office. It's a fine sight.

Have only caught up on the page so far...I will be baaaack...

Wonderful collection of shots. Love the shot of your new kitty friend and the robin. The ice plant is gorgeous!

Yes skateboards in parking lots is very scary!

Enjoyed seeing your birds, bunny and the new kitty. We have a wild kitty living up the lane near the wetland. I worry about it but can't get near him. Poor sad thing.

Neat post, Carver! I, too, met the neighborhood cats before I met the neighbors - and asked them politely to leave so the birds could come down to the feeders and bird baths.

Lovely photography!
