UPDATE - Note - At this end of this post I am updating with a shot I took this morning (Monday) for contrast.
I took the first shot this morning (Sunday) underneath my umbrella to capture the flowers which will probably be zapped tonight by the snow and cold.
It has rained all weekend but was fairly warm until today. Today the temperatures are barely above freezing and tonight the rain is forecast to change over to snow. It is supposed to snow well into Monday morning and be very cold until mid week.
Then we begin to warm up again and by next weekend we'll be having warm spring time weather. That's NC for you. I don't really mind the crazy weather but it's hard on the early flowers and birds.
The shot above is a male cardinal and the one above the male is a female cardinal. I think it's interesting how in nature, the male animals are usually the flamboyant ones whereas the females tend to be dowdy. Not always but that is often the case.

Below is a shot I took this morning of the same part of my garden I showed you in the rain. A very different sight today.
We got 3 inches of snow over night and it's pretty but the flowers are all covered up.

Oh..poor flowers..Some of mine and poking through and they are a few months too early. I love the cardinal bathing.....Michelle
The weather has been fickle way down here, too. We may have another frost this week. Weird.
Actually, I think the female cardinal is gorgeous. The shades of red in her feathers are stunning.

Daffodils! Ours are still two or three weeks away from opening. And I love your photo of the cardinal. They don't live here, so to me they are so exotic and beautiful. Even the females.

I wonder how the poor birds keep warm. Their feathers don't look adequate for this cold.

How sad that some flowers perish because of the extreme cold weather.
We don't have winter or spring here but I love the thought of the latter. It must be a time when flowers are at their best.
