Nature Notes: Late Fall

My oak trees provide me with a red umbrella this time of the year.

The oaks are dropping leaves fast which provides me with more light.

The female cardinal above and sparrow below are finding seeds on my deck that have dropped from vines and flower seed heads.

The carolina chickadee below arrived for fresh water as soon as I dumped out the overnight ice out.

The male cardinal also arrived for a drink.
naturenotesDSCN5195
Can you spot the angel in the ice?
naturenotesDSCN5152
My oak tree leaves blend nicely with my neighbor's Japanese Maple.

The bare limbs over the Japanese Maple below are from a Japanese Magnolia.

The creek is full of leaves.
naturenotesDSCN5381
It's beginning to look more like winter.
naturenotesDSCN5372
There is still a lot of fall color but leaves are dropping fast.
naturenotesDSCN5362
Looks to me like the ducks are having a party.
naturenotesDSCN5357
The mallard is having a solitary swim.
naturenotesDSCN5349
There aren't many Canadian Geese at Shelley Lake compared to past years.
naturenotesDSCN5348
A few gulls have arrived but not as many as I usually see during late fall.
naturenotesDSCN5313
There also aren't as many herons around but I spotted one.
naturenotesDSCN5307
Good thing that I love leaves.
naturenotesDSCN5297
From a distance the birds in the tree look like leaves.
naturenotesDSCN5457
When I zoom in I can tell they are birds.

Personally, I think you've outdone yourself today on such a glorious photo share. These ALL are amazing images of the season. Seriously Carver...incredible.

...and I like the words...'red umbrella'.

Hmmm. You are the second blogger to say you don't have many geese. They are ALL here! I wonder why they've stopped in our lakes and ponds, crowed all together.
