Nature Notes: Autumn is in the air

Autumn is in the air earlier than usual.

Central NC where I live usually doesn't head into autumn, or fall as I grew up calling it, until much later.

Although it will be a while before most of the leaves change colors there are many early signs of fall.

The first two shots were taken at my house.

Shots 3 through 6 were taken at the NC Art Museum Park.

The cages with plants in mound in the pond are unusual looking to me. I can't recall seeing plants handled like that in water.

The rest of the shots were taken in my yard.

I haven't seen any dragonflies in my yard this summer until last week.

I was surprised that this one stayed still for me to photograph it from both sides.

Usually they flit around so fast I have trouble photographing them.

One of my dogwood trees is continuing to slowly get its fall colors.

Oh it seems way too early for Fall...but it is starting to show up here in Oregon too...been a different kind of year everywhere it seems.

Your late summer/early fall yard and garden are lovely though....and amazing catch on the dragonfly.

Beautiful images...I especially like how you managed to capture the gossamer wings of the dragonflies. We've had tons of them here.

Yes, it seems autumn is already peeking in through the windows, tapping on the panes. Pretty photos - Love that red leaf and the spider web especially.

Your early autumn shots are lovely. The cold front that came through last week was pure delight. It sure made its mark!

Oh fall already....although I love fall colors... I am guessing that the plants are caged to keep them from being eaten like by a muskrat.... A guess... Michelle

The red leaf is lovely, sitting on those tiles. I like the wet of the berry. The caged plant does look unusual - you got me curious.
