Nature Notes: Moving into summer
It's beginning to feel like summer with the heat and humidity moving in.
I don't mind so much as long as it continues cooling off at night.
The bees are very busy and focused fully on the butterfly weed.
I've been photographing the bees more than the birds in recent days.
They ignore me while feeding and I can get very close.
I find the squirrels very amusing.
I know some people think squirrels are pests but I like them.
They are so inquisitive and agile.
The gardenias are beginning to flower and spread their fragrance widely.
The American Robins are hunting for insects and worms.
I see them year round but they are mostly in the trees during winter here. In spring and summer they hunt on the ground.

Those bee pics are really good - it seems to be a poor year for the bees over here - we have had such a cold Spring and the flowers are late blooming - I think they have had a real struggle this year- do you get any red squirrels we have them in Scotland they are quite a bit smaller than the greys - Jane UK

I like squirrels too. Such fun to watch, and you got some great photos here. You also got great photos of the busy bees :D
I too love the antics of the squirrels.. Interesting that we are both taking photos of the bees..I find them so interesting..Michelle

It's great to read a post written by someone who likes squirrwls. I find them amusing too.
It was hot here too but this afternoon the temperature is back to normal. I'm not ready for summer yet.

Bees are my heroes. They toil in an increasingly hostile environment; they don't give up without a fight; and they are the most vital, fragile link in our ecosystem. Long live the BEE! Peace, Amy
