Nature Notes: Spring progressing rapidly

It has been a very pleasant spring so far. Not too hot and not too cold.

The American Robin above was keeping an eye on my deck from the pecan tree.

Another day an American Robin enjoyed a bath and lengthy preening.

Most of the next shot is of my Pecan Tree but on the left are some oak tree limbs with new leaves.

We have a slight chance of frost tomorrow night but it will probably stay just above freezing. I'm increasingly optimistic that the temperatures won't dip low enough this spring to cause damage to fast premature growth.

The grackle above was hunting for food in my neighbor's lawn.

The male cardinal above and below was playing peek-a-boo with me.

The rest of the shots are of new babies and their parents.
natnotngDSCN9933
I couldn't believe it when I first spotted the new babies on an Easter Day after dinner walk.

The Canadian Geese must have been influenced by our mild winter to start early families.

The mallards also started a new, large family.

One last shot of the Canadian Geese with their chicks below.
