Today's Flowers: Tough Flowers

I seem to be frequently featuring camellias for Today's Flowers of late.
Photobucket
The reason I continue to post the latest phase of the camellias is that I'm fascinated by how tough they are.
Photobucket
In spite of beginning to bloom far too early they are surviving sleet, snow and cold temperatures. Snow can insulate flowers to an extent but after it melted and the temperatures dropped again, the camellia still has some charm left.

I like how they've taken on that amber color from the snow and cold.
Still lovely!

They are fighters, no doubt! Mine are taking a beating from heavy rain these days in southern California. But, survivors they are!

I actually saw some Camellias out here in Hawaii. It was about 3500 feet of elevation. They looked like they could use a shot of cold air.

Your camellias are an inspiration and remind me of my childhood where we had MANY bushes in our front yard! I can almost smell them now.

I have not seen this color, very unique. Glad she is surviving the cold.

They are in full bloom here, but mostly have fallen on the ground because of the heavy rains.

Interesting change in colour. Nicely captured. I don't see a lot of Camellias here. This is really pretty.

I'm sorry the cold has hit them, but even so they are lovely blossoms!

Amazing!
I didn't know they were that tough either.
Love the last shot with the pink and brown mix.

For such a fragile-appearing flower, it's amazing how resilient they are even in the toughest of times.

Quite beautiful too!

Carver--only you could make a weather-damaged camelia look beautiful! Seriously.
