Although we still have a few days before Halloween, I'm doing my Halloween post for weekend snapshot. Maybe some of you will help me decided if I'm festive enough.
I am seriously considering not carving a pumpkin for the first Halloween in my life (well maybe I had some help as an infant). When my daughter got old enough to have her own pumpkin ideas, I got two pumpkins. That way we didn't fight over what the jack o' lantern would end up looking like. She was more of a traditionalist than me. I didn't even paint the little pumpkins in front of the big one below. I bought them like that at the store.
I'm pleased that the Virginia creeper which grows on my railing has turned orange, or partly so, in time for Halloween. If anyone has an opinion, feel free to vote. Should Carver carve her pumpkin or be lazy and go with the blank face look on the big one, and let the little store bought painted ones suffice for the Halloween look? I realize that many countries and cultures don't celebrate Halloween so some of you may think I'm making a mountain out of a pumpkin decision.I think I may have answered my own question. I can avoid carving and have my creative pumpkin fun. I've already made a bunch of fun faces using this pumpkin simulator. Lovely pumpkins...beautiful colors too. I like the one with a pink feathers on the head. Those eyes are silly!
The hair reminds me of the troll dolls that were around when I was a kid! Turn them round the other way after Oct. 31, and you're all set for Thanksgiving! These are great.

Hi Carver, I'm not playing but I wanted to comment anyways... I really like those pumpkins. Halloween isn't really celebrated over here, sadly. Just a few bars that'll do a halloween theme - to cash in on some special occasion, I suppose.

What a bright & cheerful Halloween photo - it is fantastic. No need to carve your pumpkin.
But we have done one - & I love to see the candles flickering inside it, when it is dark!
But we have not got any with faces drawn on like yours - so my vote goes to save the pumpkin!

Beautiful Halloween displays. You wouldn't even know it's Halloween at our house this year. One year I actually bought one of those kits that give you an outline of really detailed pictures for carving. I wish I had taken a picture of my witch...but we didn't have a digital camera back then. Happy Halloween!

Depends on if you have time to carve one or not, hard to let a long standing tradition like that go- you still have a couple days to change your mind.

lovely photos! Maybe because I came to this country at a later age and didn't grow up carving pumpkins, I HATE carving pumpkins! ;( I know I am scrooge!
But I do. It is soo time consuming and soo messy!
I love painting the front of pumpkins! I only carve them for the kids! So THEY DO NOT MISS OUT!
I really enjoy watching this halloween festive in most houses here, maybe because we don't celebrate halloween like this, we usually goes to cemetery and have parties lol! :)

Don't carve it! After Halloween night (or later), the little ones with faces will have seen their day and you will then have a lovely Thanksgiving arrangement.
ANyways, that's the way I see it.
Frost is on the pumpkins here in WNY this morning---finally! Mine are covered so I won't have mush to carve (mine ARE going under the knife!)
Love the arrangement and the fact that YOUR vines are turning colors. I had to go with the fake ones.

Halloween isn't a religious day although it is the eve of all saints day which is a religious day. Halloween in the U.S. involves children dressing up in costumes and trick or treating. They knock on the door and say trick or treat and people give them candy. Some communities have trick or treating in the malls as a safer alternative to neighborhood trick or treating but my neighborhood always has a lot of trick or treating and young children are accompanied by their parents. I used to dress up with my daughter and usually take her and a friend or two until she was old enough to go with groups of children.
Modern Halloween has it's origins in the Gaelic festival Samhaim which celebrated the end of the harvest season. The ancient Gaels believed that on October 31, the boundaries between the worlds of the living and the dead overlapped and the deceased would come back to life and cause havoc such as sickness or damaged crops. The festivals involved bonfires to scare off the spirits and people wore costumes and masks to imitate the spirits and chase them off.
Lots of children in modern Halloween dress as ghosts and goblins although there are also princesses and Disney character costumes. So there you have it or a brief summary.

nice pumpkins... :) we also have 1 pumpkin left without carving and I just thought I'll do painting instead. anyway, we made a halloween tree (paper craft) and goes a mini jac-o-lanterns there... :) I think you just left the big one blank, hehe.... Happy halloween!
