Nature Notes: the end of November

I like the way I can spot more of the birds in the trees in late fall and winter.

On Thanksgiving morning I watched this cardinal having his own feast.
naturenotesDSCN6130
He was enjoying the bittersweet berries.
naturenotesDSCN6131b
These berries aren't edible for human consumption but birds love them.
naturenotesDSCN6132
The day after Thanksgiving I spotted three cormorants at Shelley Lake.
naturenotesDSCN6254
They like to perch on the old dock pilings.
naturenotesDSCN6256
It was a cold afternoon and there weren't too many people at the lake.
naturenotesDSCN6257
A friend was visiting and we had walked all over downtown in the morning and then around Shelley Lake in the afternoon so I worked off some of my Thanksgiving dinner from the day before.
naturenotesDSCN6259
I wish I had the little boy above's energy.
naturenotesDSCN6270
It's starting to feel and look like winter.
naturenotesDSCN6272
There are more and more gulls arriving.
naturenotesDSCN6278
I enjoying seeing the gulls who arrive in the late fall.
naturenotesDSCN6280
The evergreen trees around the lake keep some green going even after the deciduous trees are bare.
naturenotesDSCN6293
The gulls were flying low along the lake.
naturenotesDSCN6296
There were a few Canadian Geese hunting for food on the dam.
naturenotesDSCN6302
It looks like I have a collection of bird bath ice which is the result of providing the birds with fresh water.
naturenotesDSCN6312
We had a beautiful mackerel sky Saturday night.

I'm posting early but you can click here for the home of Nature Notes.

I agree that one of the joys of winter is being able to see the birds in the trees. ;)

The ice from your bird water dishes always looks like ice sculptures. A perfect Thanksgiving feast for the cardinal and a feast for our eyes!

I love that you wrote the names of the birds and berry the Cardinal was eating. I'm always looking for new bird attractions. Dianne
