Nature Notes: Wet and Green

With all the rain we've had this spring, I could use a bush axe to blaze a trail through parts of my backyard.
01natnotDSCN1436
The bird on the left in the shot below is a female cardinal but I'm not sure if the one on the right is also a female cardinal.
01natnotDSCN1266
The next shot is still in my backyard but closer to the deck and there is at least a path to move around unless a blackberry vine bites me.
01natnotaDSCN1286
The rufous-sided towhee stayed very still in my mulberry tree while I snapped a bunch of shots.
01natnoteDSCN1431
My hydrangea bushes are budding out nicely and growing like crazy.
01natnoteDSCN1280
I spotted the first blossom on my blackberry vines for this season.
natnotesDSCN1456
I finally got a shot of the carolina wren. I always hear them but they move so fast it can be hard to photograph them.
natntwrDSCN1512
I've started getting a lot of shots of the bluebirds this season.
natnotbbDSCN1498
They are such beautiful birds.
natntbbDSCN1505
I love to watch them flying around but like many of the birds, I have the most luck with bath photography.
natntbbDSCN1499
I have a ton of Queen Anne's Lace which I enjoy.
natnqlDSCN1525
The hydrangeas are getting more color each day.
natnothdDSCN1534
I don't know what kind of insect that is on the next Queen Anne's Lace shot.
natnoteqlDSCN1521
It's interesting to me how much gray I see in wet male cardinal feathers while they appear mostly red in the trees.
natnotecrDSCN1489
My butterfly weed is starting to get some color in its buds.
natnotbwDSCN1532
Next is another shot showing off the variety of feathers in a wet male cardinal.
natntcDSCN1473
He has the funniest look below.
natntcDSCN1495
It's nice seeing the rushing water at Lassiter Mill Park.
natnotelDSCN1573
I love how green everything is which is the reward for rain part of most days lately.
natnotfDSCN1569
I think the American Robin below is a contortionist.
nantnrDSCN1618
Next he's drip drying.
natnotrDSCN1602
Then I am getting the "don't mess with me" stare.
natntrbDSCN1615
Lastly I'm being ignored because the bath is too much fun to bother with the annoying human.

Wow..everything is so lush looking.. I am sorry, I don't know what the insects are on the Queen Annes Lace.. I wonder if you could do a book on 'Bathing Photography' or would people be confused..LOL... Michelle

Could the bird with the cardinal be a young cardinal - it looks kind of downy.

As always, I love the bird bath photos and I am JEALOUS that you have blue birds!! We are supposed to have them here, and I have maybe seen one - or it may have been a blue jay. It happened so fast - LOL!

The Queen Anne's lace is stunning! I also love to see your bathing beauties. Your hydrangeas must be something when they are in full bloom.

Hi Carver, the birds must love your yard. The birds in the bath are my favorites. They look so cute when they are bathing. Great post and photos.

Love the towhee and the blue bird. The park with the rushing water looks like a great place to visit.

Your yard is wonderful. We used to battle wild blackberry vines in Oregon -- they made great bird cover (and we and the birds loved the berries) but in that climate they would take over the whole yard -- and the house -- if you'd let them.

Your bird pictures are so great...you capture their personalities.
