I love the way shoe prints from days past are frozen in place.
Amazing how winter artwork can show up in old bird bath water held by the breath of cold air.
I love to spot emerald jewels on the bank, ready for me to grab them but wait a minute they moved. They have orange webbed feet beneath.
I spy a line of diamonds on top of the water. Why don't they sink?
Who knew diamonds could fly up to the blue and cloudy sky above.
Then down again to glide slightly above the water. The diamond has wings.
Now for a bow with arms held out in a balletic pose.
At home a squirrel is reminding me that the backyard gang needs fresh water.
A little bird watches patiently above as I thaw out the birdbaths enough to dump more ice for winter pictures, and add fresh water.
A hawk in the neighbor's tree is patient while I take it's picuture, staying totally still.
Here ends my whimsical or perhaps merely silly nature notes for the beginning of a new year.

You got some great photos in only 5 days. My favorite is the one with all the ducks, scattered about in the photo. The one directly under it, with the lake water and the "diamonds" is beautiful. And, yes, that does look like a "balletic pose." Nice captions for your lovely scenes.
Beautiful pictures and your words are full of poetry, romantic shots!
That 3th shot is fabulous!

What a lovely array of marvelous nature shots from your world ... presented delightfully. Thank you.
Hugs and blessings,
Wonderful captures and nature notes!!
Now that's what I like to see, someone who sees the beauty and enjoyment not just the cold and endurance in winter. I love each season for the very difference it provies. Wonderful photos and evocative descriptions ... just delightful.
Cool photos, I love the orange duck feet too. Great post for Nature Notes, well done.
Fun Nature Notes, Carver! Very poetical!
I love that crunchy sound too and the different sounds that the snow has depending on how cold it is. Now that the pond is frozen, I wonder where your waterfowl and gulls went. Love the little nuthatch that you caught in the photo. I have some hawk photos and a video clip you can see. I am debating as to use it as a Nature Notes post as it is graphic, but that is life in the yard.. The link is here...
