Where the trails connect and such

Last week I posted about finding a new trail which I felt sure would connect up with the ones I normally walk on but I never got to anything familiar. Bill and I ended up walking on the trail on Sunday, and as it turned out if I'd walked a few hundred more yards last week I would have ended up knowing where I was. Pardon the quality of the photographs of this duck couple. Between the light and their movements, I didn't get any great shots but I still thought they were cute enough to post. Definitely a couple of love duckies.
When we got to the point of our walk where we were going to turn around, there was a sign posted about an upcoming meeting about the restoration of the stream. Not sure what will be involved but Bill said he would go and report back to me. I should probably go myself but he can fill me in on whether or not there will be volunteer opportunities that I could help with.
I definitely would be interested in helping out if I can, within the context of some of my current physical limitations. I try to pick up trash when I walk on the trails but I fear that's about the extent to which I have helped maintain these trails which I enjoy so much. Bill told me that stream restoration usually involves dealing with erosion and flood prevention but that these streams don't seem to have an obvious problem with those issues which is part of why he's curious about what the meeting will be about.
I decided to go ahead and put up a new blog header since May is almost over and my other one was about May being Skin Cancer and Melanoma Awareness Month. Since summer is starting soon where I live, I thought I'd still go with a safe sun theme. I don't know whether my melanoma was caused by UV exposure or not but I know that I for one will never feel the same way about unprotected sun. I don't hide from the sun but sensible precautions make sense.

A very beautiful spot indeed Carver and I can see why you love to walk there so much.

The new header is lovely and yes we should all follow safe sun practices.

It certainly does look like a beautiful area... the second to last shot is terrific, even with the ducks out of focus. I can almost smell the fresh air.

I think your Safe Sun awareness and support is fantastic, as you say, for some we may not know if UV is the catalyst or not, but within the big picture of melanoma, (and the various skin cancers)...it is so important.

I love the photos of the woods and ducks, it's nifty the foreground shots and the subjects in the background...and I know I say this everytime! but it looks so beautiful, so green, so lush...it's just..........beautiful!

We have ducks on our dam, (which has high salinity), but still okay for wildlife for a few months, then hopefully the channels will bring fresh water..

Hmm ... I wonder if the stream restoration has more to do with chemicals in it? Or invasive plant species? From what I know, it's a good thing to have those fallen logs in the stream - it creates shade, which keeps the water cool, which is good for fish. I'm curious now, so keep us posted on what Bill finds out!

Thanks Pam, I'm also enjoying your photographs. It's fun to see different places from where I live. I hope you'll get fresh water flowing in soon.

Hi Dee, That's what I thought about the trees too. I suppose it could be about invasive plants. We spotted a pipe running across the creek in bad shape that looked precarious and Bill said he sure hoped that wasn't a sewage pipe because it looked like a strong wind could blow it over. I'll post what he finds out at the meeting.

I love your photos of the ducks! Ducks inherently make me happy because they remind of all of the fun summers I spent on Cape Cod....we fed the ducks on the lake at my grandmother's house every day!
