Happy Valentine's Day

In honor of Valentine's day, the text for most of this post is exerted from the Cole Porter song, Let's Fall in Love. The song lyrics are in italics. I start with a photograph of a cardinal scouting the territory, a few days ago, in advance of spring. The other photographs were taken last spring and summer. When the little bluebird - Who has never said a word - Starts to sing, Spring - When the little bluebell - At the bottom of the dell - Starts to ring, Ding dong Ding dong - When the little blue clerk - In the middle of his work - Starts a tune to the moon up above - It is nature that is all - Simply telling us to fall in love -And that's why birds do it, bees do it -Even educated fleas do it -Let's do it, let's fall in love
Cold Cape Cod clams, 'gainst their wish, do it - Even lazy jellyfish do it - Let's do it, let's fall in love - I've heard that lizards and frogs do it - Layin' on a rock - - - They say that roosters do it - With a doodle and cock . . . I hear even Boston beans do it - Let's do it, let's fall in love
When the little bluebird - Who has never said a word - starts to sing, Spring spring spring - When the little bluebell - At the bottom of the dell - Starts to ring, Ding ding ding - When the little blue clerk - In the middle of his work - Starts a tune -The most refined lady bugs do it - When a gentleman calls - Moths in your rugs they do it - What's the use of moth balls
The chimpanzees in the zoos do it, Some courageous kangaroos do it - Let's do it, let's fall in love - I'm sure sometimes on the sly you do it - . . . Let's do it, let's fall in love.

Below is a version of the song Let's Fall in Love done with clips from the Avengers (1960s). Cole Porter wrote the song in 1928.

Oh you Clever Carver!
I love this classic SpyFi stuff. The umbrella and the sticky shoes are awesome, but you gotta love that bowler.
I am starting to identify with GATORS, so the opening was a : ) for me.
The pics of the couples are so sweet! I guess the cardinal was scouting out his sweetie who was being coy at the time. I hope he found her and they had a lovely day.
Great song! Great post! Great wishes for you to have a Happy Valentine's Day.
And some chocolate as it has no calories on any holiday starting with a V and ending with -tines.
Love, K

You diabolical mastermind, you!

What a fun clip for Valentines day:) I liked your first picture with the stark trees, and the red bird in honor of this red hearted day.

Have a Happy Valentines Day.

Thanks Mar, I've always liked the idea of valentine's day falling in the winter as a prelim to spring so I had fun playing with this. Happy Valentine's day!

Thanks K, I'm with you, gotta love the bowler. A little birdie or rather a couple of beagles told me you were moving close to the gators. Good thing you identify with them. Nice to know about the no calories from chocolate and I hope you have a great valentines day.

Thanks Theresa, I was happy with that first picture too. The funny thing is below that tree, I got a shot of a female cardinal in the bushes but she blended so well it didn't make a good photograph. She did seem to be hiding. Happy valentine's day. I hope you have a great one.

I used to love the Avengers!

Happy Valentine's day Sabine. I can even remember the Avenger's in black and white. I'm dating myself, I fear.

Wonderful post Carver along with great pics as always. The butterfly one is amazing.

Thanks a bunch Mimi, I hope all is well with you.

Thanks JMB, I took a bunch of butterfly photos this past summer. I felt a little guilty as they were clearly mating and every time I moved they separated. I finally left them alone after I took about a dozen pics.
