Photohunt: Narrow

When I saw that the photohunt theme this week was narrow, I knew exactly what I was going to feature. I had a PET scan today (routine part of my stage III melanoma follow-up and hopefully I'll get good news early next week). I had to lie on a very narrow bed while I went through the scanner. I was scanned from head to toe. The problem with using that for photohunters was I needed to take a photograph of the scanner. When it came down to it, I didn't ask the technician if I could snap some pictures of the scanner. Apparently someone else wasn't as shy as me because the narrow scanner is on someone's flickr site. So if you go there, you will see just how narrow that bed is, especially for someone like me who is getting wider. I had a fusion PET/CT scan but it looks a lot like the PET scan on flickr. Since I didn't take my own photographs when I got my scan this morning, I'll go with another choice for the narrow theme. Through the years I have hiked on many narrow paths in the mountains. The ones that seem the to be particularly narrow go straight up, and have a drop down into the valley if you stumble off the path. The one above isn't so bad because there are trees to catch hold of, if you do slip off the narrow path. Looking back over my photos, I realize that I don't have the best examples of scary narrow paths because I'm too nervous to take a picture when it requires focus to climb. The scariest climbs I've done were in the past before I started doing much photography. However, these fairly recent shots at least give a taste of some narrow mountain paths. The shot below is a narrow dirt road which isn't wide enough for meeting another car, and it's never a car. Whenever we meet someone on a road where you need to back up, it's always a truck.
The road above on the left hand side isn't a road we drove on. We were on the paved road above it but I've been in a car on similar roads many times.

Saturday is the photohunt day. I post early but Saturday is when you can find the photohunters at . You can also find some photohunters on technorati - however, in spite of including the tag and pinging, technorati doesn't seem to be getting my new posts anymore. Not sure what's up with that. I hope everyone has a great weekend.

I don't like that trail with the very steep sides! But I have hiked those trails while watching the opposite hill. That helps.

Good thoughts for your scan results! You're doing good!

The thought of having to lie down on that narrow PET scan seems pretty unbearable. The quietness and been all alone there for an hour.
Your results are in my prayers :) Don't stress urself while awaiting those results okiez!

Great photos of a very beautiful place. You didn't want a photo of a scanner on your blog anyway.
Hoping and praying for you Carver.

Yes I will be hoping for your good news too! Always fun to see how people will chose to respresent the photo hunt, and interesting when people have the same ideas.

I loved your narrow paths- made me want to go out hiking.

Lovely photos, as always. Know what you mean about not being able to take pictures whilst walking narrow paths with a sheer drop. I have to concentrate like mad and not do ANYTHING else in that situation.

Here's wishing you well, Carver.

I pray it's all good news, Carver. Positive thoughts. :)

For some reason I love the narrow trails on mountains lined with trees. They're just lovely to look at.

hoping your news is good. i was finally oked for my virtual colonoscopy. they said they are not sure where it will take place. i think it means they are not sure if it will be in this device or that one that has the pounding. I hate that one. if it is that one I am going to take the medication this time because my fear factor is going through the roof, the waiting waiting waiting factor is the worst. i always end up calling and that just makes them madder

I hope you get wonderful results soon. Actually, I quite like hiking but I have not been doing so for a long time. The last time I did was years ago.. hehe

I want to hear good news on your scan too.

Those mountain paths look good for a hike, well-trodden. I climbed mountains in China and Indonesia and they were hard to walk through with so much plants and leeches.

Hi Carver. I hope you will receive favorable test results. Wishing you well.

Thanks for sharing those beautiful photos. I rarely go on nature hikes and I admire people who always take time to enjoy the beauty of nature up close.

Thanks for visiting.

I love your choices Carver... beautiful surroundings for a stroll, not to mention a stroll with the camera! :)

Have a good weekend - and good luck for the scan results! Take care!

Snap! I too wanted to show some photos of very narrow hiking trails I had gone on but, upon checking my collection, found that the pictures I had were of trails that didn't look that narrow! ;S

Lovely walks. I know just what you mean about being too scared to take photos when on a narrow path!

Hope the news is good (I'm sure it will be).

Hey Carv,
Lovely shots...you just have a good eye for this stuff. I love paths as I am naturally nosey and want to see where they go. So do the Beagurlz, so that makes 3 noses. :)
I am not much for those narrow PET/CT scanners (creeps me out a little), but that is the path to knowing of your NEDness!
What a milestone your 3 years will be!

Carver, someof the paths there are so narrow, to me it feels like if something would come and grab me, I wouldn't know where to run!

The last photo is wonderful, like a postcard. NC is beautiful!

Have a great week and take care! :)

NARROW FEED THE ROAD

Carver said...

Thanks again to everyone for visiting. To answer SargeCharlie's question:

The first photograph was taken at a trail at the Peaks of Otter off the VA part of the blue ridge parkway. The second photograph was taken at part of the NC mountains to Sea trail (no I'm not hiking from the mountains to the sea but I wish). The road shot was taken near Blowing Rock, NC. I actually looked for some shots I took during a hike on the Appalachian trail a year ago but I realized I didn't take many pictures because the part we were on was challenging for my current health and I required one hand on my walking stick, with Bill also giving me a hand.

This made me think about that terrifying road in the mountains Daddy insisted on driving on once or twice, I don't know if you remember it. I don't even know where it is, but it's barely the width of a single car and there's no guardrail and it goes around a curve and I had to cover my eyes.
