Nature Notes: End of September Beginning of October

We're having big swings in the temperature which is common in central NC.
natnotfDSCN6559
It's also continuing to rain a great deal.
natnotebDSCN6549
Still mostly green leaves although there are a few exceptions to that.
natntwDSCN6579
The stripes on the bee seem coordinated with the wildflowers.
natnotebDSCN6591
The way the small trees fell in the next shot almost look like a frame for a wooden house.
natnotebtDSCN6653
I can't get over spotting a Great Egret at the creek near my house. I guess they heard from their relatives, the Great Blue Herons, that it was a good place to fish.

There's something especially appealing to me about reflections in puddles.
natnotepudDSCN6635
I am looking forward to the blaze of color than is around the corner on these walks.
natnotetDSCN6651
It varies a lot from year to year but I don't expect most of these trees to change until much later in the month into November.
natnotewDSCN6573
The North Carolina mountains change into their fall clothes long before we do in central NC.
natnotewDSCN6614
We'll be heading to the mountains in a few weeks around peak leaf time there.
natntopDSCN6582
The next shot is the last one from the end of September.
natnttDSCN6654
The rest of the shots are from our very wet beginning of October.
natnotdwDSCN6663
The dogwoods are continuing to change colors well ahead of the other trees.
natntdwDSCN6661
I like the red berries and how they brighten my yard even when its raining.
natntodwDSCN6666
This morning was very foggy and the steam was rising up with a mist.
natnotedwDSCN6675
A single oak leaf has changed colors ahead of it's green siblings.
natnoteoDSCN6680
It was so foggy and steamy that I had to click fast as my lens was fogging up.

Great shots! We sure could use some rain here.

It's always refreshing to walk in nature esp after the rain. I just had a great online "nature photo walk" here. Thanks!

Lovely glimpses of early fall.

Early Fall is lovely there -- the foggy shots are great (as long as I don't have to drive in it I like fog)....We ought to be getting rain here and I feel guilty that I'm glad we're not. Neat that you get to go to the Mountains for some leaf-peeping (I'm sure you won't forget your camera!).

It's fascinating to watch the changes in nature as the seasons give way to each other.
Thanks for showing such transition in your place through your nice shots.
