It's not my legs that feel numb but my butt! Still, it's preferable to getting back ache which, alas, I sometimes do on plane rides, especially when they are on the lengthy side... ;(
I know exactly what you mean. I knwo that there are folks who think you should just sit and be still in a plane. Not me - if it is a long flight I need to get up and wander to stop the numbness!
