Today's Flowers: Early blooms at the Arboretum

Bill and I went to the JC Raulston Arboretum at NCSU in Raleigh, NC today to check out the premature blooms before winter blasts back in tonight.

I was glad we went because parts of the garden had a lot of blooms that you usually don't see here before March or April.

I took a ton of pictures because I'm not very optimistic about what kind of a spring we'll have given the premature blooms followed by winter blasting back in.
Parts of the garden have a lot of evergreens so even if there hadn't been early blooms there would have been a lot to see.

Even in the areas with a lot of deciduous trees and overwintered dried plants, there are a few blooms here and there popping up unexpectedly.

I have decided to stop worrying about the damage to flowers that were fooled by a mild winter and enjoy the surprises when they are popping up at me.

Most of the daffodils below were already bent down by some colder weather after they came up but they look pretty anyway. I also like the berries and yellow branches above the flowers.

I wonder what will happen to trees that bloomed too early, and then dropped buds and flowers when it got cold again.

My concern is that those trees might try to leaf out too soon but I guess I'll have to wait and see what happens.

I'll probably be posting shots from this garden walk on both of my blogs for quite a few days to come because I took so many pictures.

That is so hard to believe. It all looks like spring. I'm like you I'm very optimistic for a good outcome.
I talked to my daughter (Norfolk) earlier this evening and she said they got an inch of snow there.
Lets hope for the best.

What a strange seasons this has been, no? Unusually warm in December and beginning of January, now extremely cold...
The biological clock of animals and plants (and possibly ourselves) is messing up...
God bless you!

They do look blooming in the cold! We are having rains today although it was sunny yesterday. I hope the weather will be kinder in the weeks ahead for all of us!

Post them all Carver! It was a good idea to go to the Arboretum now, just in case. But of course I hope that there is not too much damage if (when?) it turns freezing again. I guess like all of life it's 'enjoy the day because...."
