Nature Notes: Mother goose with a gaggle of teenagers
I was leaving a shopping area by a back way when I was stopped by a bunch of young geese crossing the road.
Fortunately I had my camera and there was no one behind me so I let them take their time.
There were already a bunch of young geese that had crossed safely but mama goose was waiting on the stragglers.
It was a very big crowd of young geese with the one adult and she stood patiently waiting for the last ones to make their way across.
Finally the last two started strutted with their long legs and big feet and only then did mother goose cross the road herself.
Once they made it to the strip of grass and were foraging I took some more shots but there were too many to get them all in one shot.
It seemed like a pretty unlikely place to hang out because they would have to go back across the same road eventually.
I hope they managed to get back to wherever they came from without anyone getting hit by a car. Thursday is the official Nature Notes day at the host site, Rambling Woods.

Glad you had your camera, Carver! The goslings are starting to look a bit gangly now, aren't they?
It's so neat the way they wait like that. We once saw buffalo crossing a swift stream and the buffalo moms let their calves get caught in the current for just enough seconds to teach them the power of the water.
Those goslings look just. like. teenagers.

Nice series...geese families travel from area to area if they can to get the nice young grass. We had three couples show up with there month old goslings out of nowhere..it is dangerous though....Michelle
