Today's Flowers: Drive-by Flower Shooting
Recently, I've been photographing the flowers that attract my attention in the entrances to shopping centers, condos, and anywhere else I drive by or in.
When I'm at the post office or grocery store it's easy enough to shoot the entrance flowers when I'm stopped. However, I usually notice apartment and condominium flowers when I'm driving and it's not safe to shoot them.
It finally dawned on me that there wasn't any reason when I'm not too busy to drive into the condo entrances and pull over where I can shoot the flowers.
Sometimes I find it depressing how over built my city is, sprawling well out into what used to be woods and farmland. However, at least there are still a lot of trees and flowers, as well as parks and trails. It certainly could be worse.
I find myself singing lines from Joni Mitchell's Big Yellow Taxi, such as, They took all the trees Put em in a tree museum and they charged the people a dollar and a half just to see em, among others. At least it's not quite that bad yet.
Although I am glad to be able to drive by flowers and trees and mixed plantings, it's definitely not the same as miles and miles of forests and farmland.
Oh well, what ya gonna do, they paved paradise and put up a parking lot (thanks Joni for saying it so well) . . . I guess all I can do is be greatful they planted the entrances to the parking lots with flowers.

Carver: Really nice drive by shooting, the way it should be done.

I have been know to do some drive by flower shooting. :)
At least they are planting something after developing the land.
really a paradise flowers indeed.
The flowerbeds look very pretty. I also live in a big city and I enjoy making trips into the surrounding countryside, where nature is still untamed, sometimes :)
Thanks for sharing.
Don't it always seem to go, that you don't know what you've got til it's gone, they paved paradise, put up a parking lot - hey farmer, farmer put away your DDT now...
Love how you now stop to take the shots that before you just noticed. Most folks don't even notice.
Flowers are always beautiful.
Great shots.
That is a great idea. I have often driven by similar flower beds and notice how lovely they are, but have never stopped to take photos of them. Thanks for sharing yours with Today's Flowers.
Lovely flower islands!

I'll surely enjoy driving down there if I see loads of lovely flowers like you! Enjoy the week!
All of your pictures show that the city and their residents don't forget the flowers and trees.
Great shots..
lovely, lovely! i am always amazed how the site of flowers always makes me smile. i think it's the same for many women though.
You have done this beautifully. Urban living is not our ideal, that is why when our mountain top erie started sporting house numbers instead of names, we moved further out to our farm.
Beautiful blooms. Great captures.
I loved the title for your post ...and now after reading your post, it seems appropriate in terms of paving over paradise. Good message, that one!
Some gardeners have been busy and I love the result! lovely tour of flowers, Carver!
Lovely .. I wish there were more flowers and bushes planted in and around public places ..
Carver,
You show us wonderful gardens with marvelous flowers!
Thanks for posting for TODAY'S FLOWERS!
Luiz
At least they give your eyes some rest from the concrete with these beautiful flowers and trees!

flowers never fails to bring out the cheers and beauty around
Good idea to photograph the lovely flowers growing at shopping centres and around condos.
This is a GREAT post, I especially like your quote of Joni Mitchell. The flowers are beautiful... but so was what was there before.
...and may all drive by shootings from now on be as beautiful and thoughtful!
summer still has so much blooms to offer! i love strolling around just to snap photos of beautiful flowers too.
Remembering being about 12 years old and hearing joni mitchell singing that song; that so many said that is the way we are headed.
